weston a. price foundation and www.cheeseslave.com have some good info.
I'm making a batch of homemade sauerkraut tomorrow. I've got cabbage, gonna add a little bit of onion, carrot,  and dill. Water, salt, and whey that I made will  be added in a glass jar, pressed down and left outside for about a day, then gonna sit in the fridge for a few weeks.

That's awesome Eric! The closest I've gotten to getting someone to eat raw is getting my girlfriend to feed her dog only raw grass-fed meats. She believes wholeheartedly in it, and she now eats grass-fed beef but certainly not raw. And she still eats lots of breads/pastas/etc. I try to convince her otherwise, but maybe I've made too much of a habit of it and she now gets very touchy at the mention of her diet. Ah well.

On another note, I just started a new job at a grocery store yesterday. Today for lunch at work I ate some raw, sashimi grade tuna that I got from there. An old man that works there walked into the break room where I was eating and gave me the most disgusted look I've ever seen from another human being. Ha! I think he was very uncomfortable so he left. I just laughed to myself.

nice to see all of you!

i took a long break, as i explained in my last post before i left, because i felt like I was "thinking" too much about food, felt like it was taking over my life.

While I've continued to eat raw meat throughout this time, i've also eaten quite my fair share of SAD foods as well... also haven't been exercising very much. lately I've been wanting to get on a better track so i though getting back into this community would be of some help.

Thanks for the helpful replies guys -
the meats were in vacuum sealed bags - I might try hanging them by placing a thread through the bag & leaving it suspended in the fridge, & also cutting a small hole in the bag to let some air in, as it appears that the part which has the pressure placed on it & least air, is the part that changes colour

When I used to have this problem whilst eating meat cooked, it didn't really bother me as the cooking covered it up

So it is still fine to eat if / when this happens again in the future?

Thanking you

Yeah, it's totally fine if it turns a little brown. It just means it's not at the peak of its freshness.
It's mostly up to personal preference.
I personally don't mind if my meat has turned a little brown. In fact, in the past I have, and I know others on here have/do purposely age their meats.
So yes, it's totally fine. :)

Info / News Items / Announcements / Farewell for now...
« on: January 31, 2009, 06:42:25 am »
Hey all.
I don't know if anyone's noticed, but I haven't really been very active here lately.

I've really been adjusting my priorities lately, and I realized that I was just way way too focused on, maybe even obsessed with, my diet. I think it was having a negative impact on my life, even my health.

I wish to thank everyone here that I know, for all the information and conversation in my time here.
I support this forum 100% and I will still continue to eat a mostly raw-paleo diet because I still believe it's the best way of eating there is, at least for me.

This is not a final farewell. I am sure I will be back again, whether it is soon to pop by and see what's up, or a bit later on and become active again.

Mods, it is up to you whether to leave me as a moderator or to take away my modship. It's all good either way  8)

Peace and Love,
Keith

Primal Diet / Re: Brushing Teeth Primal Style

If I do brush my teeth, it is with just a brush and nothing else. I used to use hydrogen peroxide and baking soda, but found it not to really be necessary.

I usually just don't brush my teeth, and my breath is fine unless I've gone off the diet

General Discussion / Re: Digestive issues

Seeker I'm in the same boat. I'm actually going to try a very strange technique soon. I want to get as close to juice fasting as possible but I don't want to loose weight. So I'm thinking I'm going to do a double a day lime/egg/oil liver flush with using 8 egg yolks pure flush, then drink veggie juice in between. If I pull off that ratio it's about 2000 calories a day plus cleansing. I'll let you know how it goes. :)

I'm excited to heat your results!

and seeker, yeah, that mixture is like an "insta-movement" for me haha. That's strange about feeling you had though. What kind of oil did you use, how many eggs/limes?

My digestion was crap for a while. (no pun intended) I would be constipated quite often, and like you it didn't bother me that the movements were semi-infrequent, it was their difficulty passing that bothered me.

What really helped was the lime juice/raw egg/oil mixture that is on Edwin's (goodsamaritan) website. I made a post on a variation of it that I use under the Recipes subforum.
Since I started on that, my digestion has been top notch. (although I did get what I believe was salmonella from the raw eggs a few days ago, but that's better now)

I won't be drinking that mix anymore for a while, so we'll see if the good digestion continues.

I've also found that eating a little raw, unfiltered honey after a meat meal helps with digestion as well.

You say you are low-carb... do you eat any fruit at all? I've found some fruit moves easily while others do not. I guess in this regard it's about experimentation.

yea English is my first language.. although I write type pretty fast and sometimes invent some sentences :p ... you're right about that mistake (you're good at catching bad grammar I've seen lol). Though I still think I've heard "paste" used in connection to movement or speed, somewhere..

well I just hope I don't come off negatively...
have I corrected grammar before on here? Oh my. You would think I was an English major or something!  :P

Perhaps you are thinking of the term "Post haste"?

You should see results pretty fast. The liver is one of the fastest generating organs in the body. The cells divide/renew at a very fast paste. If you give your liver the possibility to excrete toxins with the cold pressed oils, raw egg yolks (and maybe a little lime) then the issues you were having should disappear in a couple of weeks, even less.

i'm sorry, but I have to lol here  ;D
is English your first language?

Health / Re: Parasites
« on: December 16, 2008, 12:07:49 pm »
Cool, glad it worked out for you.
The one time I suspected that I had a parasite/s causing major issues was after I ate some raw salmon.
For a few days I would get the most awful, acute nausea that I could ever imagine. It came on very quickly and at random, but passed in a few minutes. I would be at work and have to literally run into the bathroom because I thought I was going to throw up. I would salivate profusely. But I never did throw up.

This continued for days until I started drinking moderate amounts of cayenne pepper mixed with water. This stopped the problem completely.

livingthelife, I don't think TylerDurden means any ill-will.
I do think you completely misconstrued his above post about your dog's diet, as I didn't sense any aggressiveness at all in it. Just a question.

As far as the post in the "raw fat" thread...
like you said you are going to have compromises. When you mentioned the chips and that you would not be afraid of them, i think Tyler was, in his own way  ;) , saying that these would in fact be a compromise, not something to eat for seeking health.

We all have our own viewpoints here, and Tyler doesn't speak for the board. Some promote 100% raw, some promote zero carb, and it is best not to let these differences get in the way of the goal of the board as a whole, which you said you were committed to and I agree.

Hope you decide to stick around!

Health / Re: Muscle Soreness / Cramps
« on: December 14, 2008, 07:04:11 am »
Hmm...
I have a feeling that it may be something you did in the gym.
Sometime in the spring I started getting extreme cramps in my feet and calves. Absolutely horrible, horrible cramps.
I realized that it was because my bicycle seat was raised too high up and that when I came to a stop on my bike and had to balance myself, I would have to stand on my tip-toes on one foot.

Although in your case I don't know what you may have done, or why exactly it was delayed so long.

On the other hand, Lex says he gets cramps if he doesn't get enough salt, so that may be something to think about

Very good... it was as I suspected haha.
She certainly is pretty, that's for sure!

I got my parents to buy the Slanker's Dog food mix for their dogs, but they still feed them the garbage dog food.
