General Discussion / Re: Those With Acne or Who Had Acne
« on: December 06, 2008, 06:56:01 am »
I used to have REALLY bad acne back in high school. All over my face, arms, back, chest, even some on my stomach.

Unfortunately I was not so smart back then and went on accutane.

After I got off accutane, I still got some zits every once in a while.

Since going raw paleo, that's happened much less.

Applying raw apple cider vinegar or coconut oil has helped me in this regard.

What I do is, at night, I will take what I'm going to eat the next day out of the freezer and put it in the fridge overnight. Then I'll take things out of the fridge and either eat them or wait for them to get to room temp, depends on my mood or how much time I have.
So yeah, day by day works for me.

Just found out The Bear is a former LSD chemist, Owsley Stanley http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Owsley_Stanley#Diet_and_health. Don't know if that raises his credibility or not.

Hold on... the Bear is Owsley Stanley????:o

AHHHHHH no way that blows my mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's good you're back in the gym.
I myself have kind of been a bum and haven't gone in a good while.

I started reading the Relearning to See book over thanksgiving break, but haven't picked it up in a few days. I can tell consistency will be a problem with me as well. It seems like it could work though, given enough effort.

Assuming my freezer is standard (it's on top of a refrigerator)
I could probably fit about 75-80 lbs. with nothing else in there. Of course it depends on the cuts you get as well I suppose. Ie. Roasts probably won't stack as nicely as packages of ground beef, etc.

I usually order enough for 3-4 weeks

Don't some fish jump out of the water to eat bugs? Some even crawl up on land.
Then of course there are the carnivores of the sea.

Yumm! I love lamb kidney... I'm having some later on today.

Right now I'm about to tear into some strawberries

I commend you for slaughtering your own animals to eat.
Not many people willing to do that. Probably more around here though  :)

i just had an amaaaaaaazing meal...

got invited to an oyster bar, so I got the "raw trio"...

a dozen raw oysters, some raw tuna, and a 1/4 lb. of raw shrimp.

I feel really strange right now though... didn't someone make a post a short while back about feeling strange after eating raw oysters? It's like a buzzed feeling.

But anyway, everything was delicious! The oysters tasted like the sea, and the tuna was melt-in-your-mouth. I'm a happy camper right now!  ;D

deep down I know I will never connect following this!

Then don't do it. No one's forcing you to.

With so much working against us, it's impossible not to devote a good amount of thought and/or time to food. Back in actual paleo times, they didn't have to think about it so much. Things have changed, and its no longer a matter of "eat what is available for survival", which happened to be healthiest anyhow.
We have to choose between not thinking about food and fitting in with societal norms, and being healthy.
I think nutrition is a perfectly reasonable thing to devote thought and time to. Maybe some others don't.
But is there really a balance? Not that I've seen. It's not normal to be healthy, that's just the facts. You just gotta deal with it in your own way.

I'm not zero carb, but now I'm thinking that zero might be right for me.  Tyler, it's not damaging to go zero carb for only a month or so just to try it out, is it?  I mean to go back to some carbs afterwards maybe, what might I expect to be changes during the transition period of going back?  So far, I'm very sensitive to cooked foods.  That's why I eat RVAF.  I don't think that will change.  I have tested myself out.

I went zero-carb for a couple weeks just to see what it was like. I felt no different on zero-carb than I did eating carbs, except for that when I was zero-carb my recovery rate from exercise went down a whole lot.
No transitioning experiences or anything. When I went back to eating carbs again, it was like nothing had ever changed.

General Discussion / Re: What's your favorite organ meat?
« on: December 01, 2008, 04:17:38 am »
I went along with you guys saying the heart is an organ, but the tongue now?! What the hell isn't an organ? The tongue is pure muscle and fat and doesn't store anything like an organ does.

You're technically correct, and tongue should probably be called a "variety meat" or something like that, but come on, must one always be semantically correct?  ;)

With regards to the social aspect of this diet...
while it is definitely true that my diet isolates me somewhat, it is nowhere near as isolating as the mental state I was in pre-RawPaleo.

I've always been a tad obsessive my entire life. When I get into something, I get into it 100%

Health / Re: Allergies
« on: November 30, 2008, 11:04:38 pm »
I think that the natural solution would be "Don't live around cats!"
but despite my pleas, my parents won't give them up. I can't really expect them to, although I do think it is a bit cruel to get cats when you know someone in your family is allergic to them (actually my sister and father are allergic as well, but they keep a constant supply of OTC allergy meds which I won't touch, and my mom is so prescriptioned-up who knows what she's allergic to).

I personally feel that blessing the water creates a energetic link between it and me - that link being the intention of health, which glorifies the creator

:) that's a nice thought, I think about things somewhere along those lines as well

Health / Allergies
« on: November 30, 2008, 10:59:10 pm »
I'm extremely allergic to cats.

And my parents have four of them.
I went home for thanksgiving break hoping that my allergies would have diminished since going raw paleo, but that was not the case.
I was constantly sneezing, stuffy and runny-nosed, foggy-headed, miserable. My sneezes were so violent that by the second day, whenever I would sneeze the muscles in my neck, back, and arms would be in extreme pain.

So are allergies not due to a poor diet? At least some of them, like my cat allergies?
I really wish I could go home and enjoy time with my family without being absolutely miserable the whole time I'm home.

Drinking a concoction of water, apple cider vinegar, baking soda, and cayenne pepper worked for a couple months. It was miraculous actually, I had no allergy symptoms whatsoever. However this became ineffective over time.

Any ideas about what could get rid of my allergies, or even just my symptoms (naturally of course)?

WATER

I'm inspired by the good info on this forum to investigate options for quality water.

Right now I'm using distilled with a pinch of salt, a blessing, and 24 hours of moonlight or diffused sunlight.

I plan to look into:
-low-tech filtration for current source of distilled water
-high tech ionizer

I also plan to call the distilled water company and ask about their processing (how many cooling / collection phases) and filtration. I also want to know if they add disinfectants (which are added to typical bottled spring water).

Wow, where did you hear that about the disinfectants? I buy spring water, I should find out if the kind I get has them.  -v

Also, I notice you said you say a blessing over the water... are you familiar with Dr. Masaru Emoto?

General Discussion / Re: Going vegan shrinks your brain
« on: November 30, 2008, 09:53:54 pm »
There is a fruitarian on another board I'm a member of, and he says that most vegans don't take in nearly enough calories and therefore get and look sick.
He says that getting enough calories as a raw vegan, which means eating LOADS of fruit, will provide you with enough fatty acids and protein.

He says he is in perfect health, hasn't been sick in the two years since he's started, and feels great. Who am I to say he's not healthy?

I, however, love my meat and will continue to recommend raw paleo.  ;D

Cool, looking forward to reading and seeing your progress!

And if I may say so you are so pretty and your eyes are beautiful!
Also, this may be a generalization, but why is it that every woman with very short hair like in your picture that I have met/seen seems so chill?

I think sometimes we have to step back and see it from the cooked meat eater's point of view.

As long as the meat is RAW, our bodies can do with it as it pleases.

But when the meat is COOKED, human bodies need lots of fat and or carbs as a larger proportion than the cooked meat which tends to putrefy in their guts.

I just discovered an old pocket book circa 1965 and it is so amazing this MD already has summarized what we are talking about here in raw paleo and holistic health: "Food is your best medicine" by Henry G. Bieler MD

Pshh, check out Hippocrates: "Let food be thy medicine, and let thy medicine be food."

"And we have made of ourselves living cesspools, and driven doctors to invent names for our diseases." Plato

"At the end of times the merchants of the word will deceive the nations of the world through their Pharmacia." Rev 18:23
