Title: Favourite Quotations
Post by: TylerDurden on August 10, 2008, 06:41:25 am
Alright, here's a thread where you can post your favourite quotations from your favourite philosophers, movies, books or whatever.
Here's my first contribution:-
"I found Rome a city of bricks and left it a city of marble." Caesar Augustus, from Suetonius, Augustus Roman politician (63 BC - 14 AD)
(Rule is no more than 1 quotation per person per day)

"There is nothing to be learned from a Professor, which is not to be met with in Books." ~David Hume (April 26, 1711 – August 25, 1776), Scottish philosopher, economist, and historian
I don't know how truthful it is, though. Certain things must be taught in person. And knowledge has historically been transmitted orally. I still think it is mostly valid, especially considering the era from which it comes - The Age of Reason.
