Title: Fermented Cod Liver Oil - Method?
Post by: Isthmus on June 10, 2011, 03:43:08 am
Hey all,

I would love to find out a step by step method for fermenting cod liver oil; and presumably it can be done with other fish livers too. A sacred food from many ancient nordic and arctic cultures, like many fermented foods it is surely full of powerful health giving properties.

I would have no clue where to begin!

Do any of you know the ways of fermented cod liver oil?

Peace

All I know is there are some fish that have oily flesh and non oily livers, and other fish that have oily livers and non oily flesh.  Cod is the latter.  Salmon the prior.  I have fermented fish, even whole fish, but not fish livers per se.  I have fermented another fat.  I fermented coconut cream that was made in the AV style.  After fermenting it the oil just separated.  I'm assuming if you ferment cod livers, the oil will come out, and I think that's how they make it.
