Omnivorous Raw Paleo Diet / Re: Heavy exercise program on a paleo diet
« on: February 27, 2010, 10:31:45 pm »
Thanks for the idea. What appeals to me (P90X) is the idea that I don't need special equipment and can do it while traveling.

When you say you would not go with the P90x, what are the reasons?

Omnivorous Raw Paleo Diet / Heavy exercise program on a paleo diet

I am considering doing an intense exercise program called P90X
http://www.beachbody.com/product/fitness_programs/p90x_plus.do?code=YAHOO_SEMB_P90XPLUS&ef_id=1908:1:7661b7bc5c57f144657eaf6bf54dc6a9_64502193511_404224752011:S4kUktBkLAoAAE2kTxAAAAJA:20100227124818

Is this a bad idea on a Raw Paleo diet that Aajonus Vonderplanitz talks about ?
I am 56 years and in moderate shape. I was in top shape many years ago. I am doing it for health and strength although I am not unhealthy. I was a 20 year vegetarian and am on AV's raw paleo diet since December 2009.

I notice that they give advice on diet and it is obviously not raw but I will dismiss the diet suggestions basically.

Any opinions as to the advisability of this?

PS ... I saw it on an infomercial while in a hotel. Probably one of the worst sources of life decisions javascript:void(0)

Anyone tried using a miswak stick? http://www.yobserver.com/sports-health-and-lifestyle/10013042.html.
I've decided to buy one and see if they work well as toothbrush and toothpaste replacement.

A quote from the article where it says not to use it no more than once per week as it is so abrasive.
"Dr. Hani Saeed, a dentist and a professor at Dhamar University, believes the miswak has benefits, but can be over used. “I am against the daily use of the miswak because it can grind down the enamel of teeth,” he said. “If it is used no more than once per week, the stick is fine, but I discourage people from using it any more than that.”

“Using toothpaste and a toothbrush is more effective than the miswak,” said Dr. Saeed. “The brush can reach every where in the mouth and kill bacteria between the teeth.”

“I always clean my teeth using the miswak after every prayer during Ramadan month. It gives me a fresh and good breath, and I feel better to have clean teeth and healthy gums,” said Malika Farah, 22, student at Sana’a University"

I see them in Indian grocery stores. I never had any luck with them so I gave up.

When Doctor Price visited the people in Switzerland he reported that their teeth were covered with green slime but had otherwise excellent teeth.
In Ayurveda most fruit is various shades of the taste sour. Sour aggrivates Pitta. Pitta is based in the stomach and when aggravated it migrates uphill as it is essentially heat (like fire) so if an upset stomach isn't noticed when eating too much fruit, then the next site it attacks is the teeth. It starts off as dental pain and in severe cases (like a friend of mine's wife, she was too stubborn to quit eating sour foods) causes such severe pain that removal of all the teeth is the only solution. OR stop eating so much fruit or sour stuff. I can't imagine being a fruitarian. Years ago I discovered that even drinking orange juice would give me cankers (mouth ulcers) so bad I could barely talk.

If you are using "Sensodyne" toothpaste you gotta give up spicy, sour foods period. Eat dairy (non-sour dairy) and other Pitta pacifying foods. Sensodyne toothpaste is essentially a local anaesthetic.

Here is a french report about inuit hunters in the tundra.
You can see at 9:20 inuits eating fresh raw trout and at 13:00 inuits eating the fresh liver of a killed caribou with the content of the stomach.

Probably vastly superior nutrition wise but a friend of mine told me beaver is close to uneatable when cooked. Very strong taste. However I have no idea about raw.

Porcupine is supposedly delicious (cooked)

Omnivorous Raw Paleo Diet / Re: Kidney Stress
« on: February 18, 2010, 12:01:20 am »
There are two aspects to what he says. The first concerns:
"Kidney infection (a detoxificaton) is chracterized by pain originating in the middle back that reaches around to the lower abdominal area, frequent urination, sometimes blood or pus in the urine, nausea, and vomit.
Throughout the day of infection, drinking a large glass of good mineral water with three tablespoons fresh lime juice and beet or 1/2 cup raw vege juices (that includes 1 oz beet juice) with 3 oz of good mineral water 1/2 hour before eating has nurtured and soothed the kidneys. (The juice or water were mixed or drunk separately) Raw lime and beet juices and fresh raw corn on the cob regulate bacteria levels so that infection does not become excessive. If there is blood in the urine, it is best to stay off the feet and remain sedentary."
The second concerns:
"Kidney stones are crystalized cooked vege-fat resins and crystallized hydrogenated fats and oils and mineral salts that collect and form clusters and clumps in the kidneys. I have had many kidney stones analized. Most were composed of food additives such as flavour and fragrance oils. Many were composed of crystallized oils from syrups and candies.
Most stones are formed during the sleep. KS cause pain originating in the mid back that reaches around to the lower abdominal area, increased urination that sometimes contain blood or pus, sometimes sharp pain in the kidneys, nausea and vomiting.
2 to 3 hours before sleep, abstaining from sold food and drinking a mixture of 1 cup warm raw milk with 4 tbsp raw cream and 2 tbsp unheated honey relaxes kidneys during sleep. Drinking a blended mixture of 1/2 c raw unripe pineapple, 1 tbsp. raw unpasteurized apple cider, 3 tbsp. fresh raw lemon juice and 4-6 tbsp raw coconut cream helps gradually dissolve KS. Or 6-8 tbsp of fresh raw lemon juice or lime juice mixed with 6 tbsp raw coconut cream 2-3 hrs before sleep gradually dissolves KS. Eating at least 1/2 c of raw fat (ie. avocado or unsalted raw butter) daily usually prevents large kidney stones.
When stones are being dissolved, there may be some discomfort. Drinking plenty of raw milk to which you have added 4-6 tbsp raw cream and 2 tbsp unheated raw honey per 28 oz. of raw milk and staying in bed for 1-2 days alows the body to use all of it's accessible nutrients and energies for dissolving stones, making the process easier."

I looked a little further in Aajonus V. book We want to Live and it described your symptoms and the solution. It's on page 282-3.

I am not certain that consuming salt is a good idea. Aajonus suggests how to deal with a salt craving on page 144 of "We Want To Live".
He says:
"It causes sodium molecules to clump in the blood. That reverses ion magnetism and pulls the guts (so to speak) from cells. The affected cells can no longer eat anything and they shrivel and die. Four little bitty grains of salt - including sea salt - destroy approximately 2 million red blood cells. It takes at least three hours to replace the blood cells and about 24 hours to cleanse the dead cells. During those processes important nutrients are leached from the blood and body. As a result salt speeds aging.
" The craving for salt is symptomatic of a mineral deficiency. To satisfy he craving for salt, I suggest that your wife eat any or all of these foods: fresh raw tomatoes, no-salt-added raw cheeses, fresh celery juice and raw fish. Eating raw shellfish, like oysters and clams, several times per month is particularly effective in quickly correcting a mineral deficiency.) These foods will supply a concentrated balance of minerals that the body can utilize easily and pleasurably."

I have noticed that some spots (melano) on the backs of my hands seem to be disappearing. Could be my imagination.

Omnivorous Raw Paleo Diet / Re: Meat suitable for the tropics?
« on: February 17, 2010, 08:39:00 am »
I would tend to think that eating meat is similar to any other food decision.
If you eat food that is from your local area then the immune system of that plant/animal has been geared up to operate in that climate and so it will transfer this attribute to yourself.
Obviously this concept has limitations or eating seafood would be problematic : ) however...

Same goes for meat if you eat large slow moving animal meat like a cow for instance, you should tend towards taking on the cows characteristics... heavy, slow moving, quiet. Whereas if you eat goat you will  take on the aspects of lightness etc. Not sure if it will make you horny.... (get it, goats have horns)

The easiest way to explain this is that tea grows well in Ceylon. Ceylon is very damp and rainy so the immune system of the tea plant has evolved to thrive in this very damp climate by being good at getting rid of water to prevent rotting. So by drinking the tea from Ceylon this inner intelligence is transferred to the drinker by encouraging getting rid of liquid (urine) . Tea is a diuretic.

These Medjool dates from Bard are not pitted.
The dates (medjool) were a breakfast suggestion from my Ayurvedic doc (Vaidya) to get rid of vata in the AM.
I don't leave home without them.

They say their dates are organic but after listening to "The Omnivore's Dilemma" by Michael Pollan http://www.michaelpollan.com/  I am a little wary of how people define organic. The government has a wild and crazy definition of organic.

I just called them. They said they are dried in a drying room which gets to 120 to 130 degrees. Is that considered good for a raw diet?

Are Bard Valley Dates raw? In other words have they been steamed or whatever?

Thanks
