General Discussion / Re: For Those Who Use Intermittent Fasting...
« on: April 15, 2011, 02:00:22 am »
I gained muscle combining my version of IF/Warrior Diet (one large evening meal daily) with heavy weight-training and paleo Zero Carb. I would never go back to more than 2 meals a day, or eat during the day. This works so well!

I could never do 80/20. My fat is 67-69 and rest protein (about 1% carbs). I need more protein for satiety and building.

You can play around with Fitday to get a combination of foods that fit your percentages. I use Fitday each day.

Yes, I am on birth control so I do have a period from the BC every month. But I am 15% bodyfat, so I am not a good example of what a "typical" woman on ZC would go through. I might not get a period without the Pill, but I am not sure.

There is a woman on ZIOH (Yanpeng) who just got her period back on ZC. I think it comes down to body fat and nutrient density.

Phil, all the cool people have left ZIOH. Who is left, really? I sometimes read over there and laugh. All they talk about is dead pemmican, Wal-Mart chuck rolls and how awful offal is :).  I am so glad I left. If you think Del Fuego is cool for feeding his kids only dehydrated meat and making sure they never socialize with other children, I'm scared  :D.

I wish I could trap you, Phil, and get you over your obsession with "needing" something other than animal foods. You are never satisfied. You admit that you feel best eating animal foods only, yet you keep experimenting with fruit, vegetables, tubers, honey. Ask yourself why? You saw my pictures, right? You see that I can build muscle while being effortlessly lean (15% for a woman--that is in the LOW END of the ATHLETIC range!) on a highly nutrient dense ZC WOE. I am so happy eating this way. I never yearn for honey or fruit...why? They make me hungry, and just have sugar with maybe a trace amount of Vitamin C or potassium. Not worth it IMO. And since you don't need to eat multiple times a day like SAD eaters, you can socialize without eating. Very easy. I don't understand your not being satisfied.

Didn't you recommend grain-fed meat and organs recently?

Klowcarb, how can you be sure about grain-fed meat? I guess that you are on zc only a few years, right? So, no long-term experience... And in the case of toxins the effects usually become visible only after many years.

Löwenherz

ZIOH ZC is not grainfed meat and organs.  It is ENTIRELY grainfed meat, Wal-Mart meat, tons of processed and well-done meat, and organs are shunned. I was suggesting having grainfed organs over NO organs. I eat grassfed beef, but I'm not going out of my way to find grassfed organs if they are not available. I eat tons of eggs, so while I buy good eggs, no way am I paying for pastured eggs because I eat as many as 4-12 a day and that would not be money well spent. I go for nutrient density over fears of something not being pastured or grassfed entirely.

You, Lowenherz, are ASSUMING that any grainfed meat has toxins in it. That is unfounded.

At what point does warming meat in a pan turn to cooking? A genuine question. I do not really like my meat cold, and I hate raw eggs. So I semi-cook!

Really? wow.

I can get organic grainfed organs but im scared it has toxins??? in it lol..

This whole idea of toxins in grain fed fat and grainfed animals is way overrated and paranoid. You can sit home and eat fingernail clippings, or get the amazing benefits of organ meats, albeit grainfed. Your choice.

Currently in love with beef tongue!

What does your daily food intake look like?
what do you eat, how much, calories etc...
sense you count your cal's  :)
I have been easing my way into this and have gained weight in the past on more of a cooked version of this diet - i felt and looked terrible.  i am 5'2, but still pretty close to your size.

On non lifting days, I eat 1600-1650 calories. On lifting days, 2000-2100 calories.

I eat grassfed 85/15 ground beef as the base of my 1 large meal a day. Once in a while a steak, but I like the $5.99/lb. grassfed 85/15 I can get. Sometimes 90/10.

I eat copious amounts of eggs, with extra yolks. I also eat these organs: heart (pork, beef, lamb), liver (veal, lamb), pig ear, occasional chicken gizzards, tongue (pork/beef).

Grassfed butter and coconut oil for fats.

I do 67-69% fat, 0-1% carbs (organ meats, eggs) and the rest protein.

What the ZIOH ZCers tend to ignore is that the wild animals of the Stone Age and today store most of their fat in depots rather than intramuscularly, yet the ZCers tend to not eat much of the fat depot fat and they claim that grainfed intramuscular fat is just as healthy, which seems like speculation. Even if there are studies on it, it's likely that we don't know all the differences. Nature is complex.

ZIOH is an embarrassment to me, a paleo, whole animal ZCer. In fact, I will refer to them as FZC, for frankenfood ZC.

Not sure what this thread is about.

After 2 years of pure Zero Carb, I have found the percentages that work for my bodybuilding lifestyle. I need to be able to lift heavy and hard, but stay lean.

From Fitday, I feel/look/perform best when my fat is 67-70%, carbs are around 1% (from eggs and organs) and protein is 30-33%. I plan my meus to reach this exact proportion.

139
I have been ZC for 2 years. I'm 5'4", 108 lbs., 15% bodyfat (for a woman). I'm very lean.

I count calories. It is fun. I do not EVER trust appetite, and I have zero interest in listening to my body. Try using fitday.

Hmmmmm, really no magic here.  I consider pemmican an emergency food, a compact food for travel, and a food that can be stored for use during lean times like winter.  This is how it was used by the Cree Indians who invented the stuff.  I don’t think it was ever meant as a sole source of nutrition, but then that is just my opinion.

Completely agree. Frankly, I see pemmican as dead food...all the nutrients are dried out. I completely agree on a nutrient dense ZC diet. I include organs, coconut oil, grassfed butter and tons of eggs with my grassfed beef.

Ground round? Or... ?

I get 85/15 grassfed mostly, or 90/10.

I don't really worry about toxins in meat if I eat a whole foods ZC diet. I'll eat any meat over any other non animal food.

I use Fitday's online program. It is easy for me as I am ZC and eat under 10 foods, all nutrient dense. I love the charts, macros, micros. I only don't like that I cannot see omega 3:6 ratio, and there is no iodine or a few other minor nutrients. But it works well.

Wellbeing is the best. I have energy fasting during the day, and get a huge satisfying and nutrient dense meal at night. Well-being is certainly enhanced my having 15% bodyfat and flat abs  ;D

I do weight lifting for upper body but not for lower body as I don't like to. So to get legs super tight, all I do is the ArcTrainer, 15 minutes every day, on highest resistance/highest ramp. Slow. It is like weightlifting for legs. No squats, no deadlifts, no other leg work.
