I spend about 500-600

Wow! That's a lot.

I spend about $50/week on animal foods. Then I might spend another $20-30/week on plant foods. So $250-350/month. I buy my animal foods in bulk which really helps, and I'm always looking for deals. Also since I eat mainly beef fat (7.5 oz daily), and I get that for like $1.55/lb, it helps keep costs down.

that is about $850 a month.  Real healthy food is expensive, but if you think about it, long-term, eating unhealthy food is WAYYY more expensive because of all the health issues that unhealthy food brings.

its so true. I've wanted to add up all those little things we no longer get being RPD, and see how much is actually saved. Personally, I have spent a fair amount per month on supplements for the last year that helped a little, or short term then effectiveness waned. Not to mention trying to convince my family (who already believes in the power of healthy foods) that health insurance benefits us in no way because there is no long term treatment we would accept and emergency can't deny you. We were paying $4000 a month btw... Imagine the raw foods that could be eaten by 4 people at that cost and STILL have money left over.

Very true. If you look at the cost of cancer treatment, assuming you get conventional treatment and not one of the more natural alternatives, it can bankrupt the average person.

I eat a lot of seafood.  I actually get it at a discount,  there's a couple of lesbians who drive their truck (I call it the "lesbian seafood truck" ROFL) to the coast every weekend, and buy a bunch of super-fresh seafood at wholesale, and sell it off the back of their truck every week, here in the VA mountains.  It's more fresh AND cheaper than the grocery store.

My food may be the cheapest.  Fresh raw fatty sirloin is 300 pesos per kilo. Fresh Raw tuna at 350 per kilo, oysters in shell at 50 pesos per kilo.

Exchange rate is 1usd = 41 pesos

Considering the income levels where you live, that's not especially cheap. You pay about 1/3 what I would for those same foods, but the incomes there are also much lower.

TINSTAAFL! (There's no such thing as a free lunch.) Insurance benefits are a part of our incomes that we do not get to decide on. "Coverage" means that the employer spends some of our pay in a specialized way.

Yes, I need a bigger business.  I'm feeding a BIG BIG household.  Too many.  They consume so much more meat when they cook meats.

and I HATE this. I should be able to decide if I want to "waste away" by denying health insurance (that I wouldn't use, aside from emergency, which often isn't covered anyway) and using the money for my own personal health. And probably have some left over, I'm thrifty.  ;D

Health insurance is useless except for broken bones. I need to learn to fix broken bones and gunshot wounds/stab wounds all that stuff so I wont need them for that either. Once I learn that health insurance will be completely useless.

gunshot wounds stab wounds broken bones/trauma injuries in general are pretty much the only things health insurance is good for and even with that stuff they often fuck up and people will get things amutated for no reason because of infections at the hospital and whatnot.

I think goodsamaritan knows some people in the phillipines who fix such things naturally. I recall one video where sifu sam fixed his sons broken bones using some sort of herbal cast and I recall it worked quite well.

I would imagine something like that would bring nutrients direct to the source, allowing the body to do with work from there. I think the reason western medicine has emergency down so well is because they are good at two things: surgery and stabilizing people. With their advent of sterilization, surgery becomes commonplace, and anesthesia that safely puts people under and numbs them really helps them stop flailing from pain while trying to stop their bleeding.

How much do you eat per day and how much does it cost you per lb for your fat?

The total weight of my food comes out to around 600 Grams per day.
My macronutrient ratios come out to:
250 Grams of Fat
75 Grams of Protein
Which is around 2600 Calories.

The fat is $5.00/lb (expensive, I know..)

I wouldnt be so sure about the safety of anaesthesia. I knew a college professor in biology who would do all sorts of terrible stuff like smoke cigs drink lots of coffee and eat crap food but he would draw the line at any anaesthesia or novocaine or any pain reducing  chemical of the sort. He was so convinced of the danger of these things that he would do very painful dental surgeries completely sober. The dentist couldnt believe it but he sat through incredible pain with no pain relief because his belief in the danger of these things as so strong.

My conclusion is one of two things:

1- he's onto something

2- he's crazy and dead wrong

If he's onto something, what is the outcome? General sickness? Body needing to detox? wasting years of life by causing your body to renew tissue that was numbed?

I have a hard time taking health considerations from examples where overall health isnt a priority because it sounds too conspiracy theory to me. If he was concerned about health, he'd cut out the cigs. If he thinks anesthesia is worse than cigs, he falls into "good enough" thinking which doesn't satisfy my curiosity.

I wouldn't be surprised however is there is something to that. Pain is your body telling you its limits. We can push through it it gently and stretch the limits, like with exercise. Or we can demolish those limits with adverse affects; like a fracture or muscle tear. How would anesthesia be anything more than a temporary erasing of those limits? Once the anesthesia wears off I don't think the limits have changed... but I may be wrong. Tough to define a subjective thing like pain.

He says it causes lots of brain damage every time you use it.
This is not the case with coffee and cigs.

True about first time having it kill people. I have to kinda disagree about going through a lot of pain in surgery vs. quitting cigs/coffee.

Addiction is weird like that. My bro has been through some serious hell because of drugs and still keeps goin. Every addict does. I mean 3-4 solid days of SCREAMING his head off all day full blown 10/10 on the ground crying in pain, because of meth use. Think that stopped him? Sadly, nope. Your mind has a way of justifying the drug use because of the pleasure it gives you. Anesthesia can be approached far more logically.

to feed myself raw, and one or two kids cooked / partial raw, i spend about 60-80 bucks per week (veggies, fruits, nuts, berries, animal product including seafood, and supplies/seasonings/additives)...  most items are either organic or local, grass fed and fresh/live (but sometimes i need to cut corners to make things work).  dog food is a separate budget category.  i can't budget any more grocery money than that, without living in my car.  i used to spend 100-120 bucks per week feeding myself, and one kid a cooked food diet.  it took a while to reduce my raw grocery spending to be less than my prior cooked spending, but if i split up shopping between 3 or 4 sources, i can make it work.  rationing and portions are crucial components to the equation.

my daughter pays for her own non essential foods (like crappy snacks, and shit).

real men heal from gunshot and stab wounds with a bottle of whiskey, a damp cloth on the forehead, and a hot babe in dirty clothing, watching over them.

no doubt, new york prices are outrageous.  everything from cancer sticks, to bridge toll, to soggy warm hot dogs served from a cart on a stale bun.  yikes.

That's a good question. With half a gallon plus dairy a day that's a lot of carbs.

Beef fat. I eat half a pound daily, costing me $3.89/2.5 lbs. Makes up the bulk of my diet. Costs me like .75 cents a day.

id assume im in ketosis because my diet is about 70 percent fat. I also feel a difference in my energy. I have a much more stable less erratic type energy now than compared to when im eating lots of carbs. I notice a very distinct difference in the type of energy I feel and I assume this feeling is ketosis.

How can I know besides. those things?

Urine ketone tests are inaccurate. If you are in ketosis, ketones should NOT be spilling out of the urine.

I'd say those symptoms as well as weight loss (if you are overweight and restricting calories) would be signs. I've noticed after eating too much protein I'd get headaches, joint pain, diarrhea and feel fatigued. After experimenting with protein intake and finding that sweet spot I would notice higher energy, increased stamina/strength, mental clarity, normal bowel movements and an increased tolerance to stress.

i definitly very distinctly feel all of those things compared to when I was doing higher carb raw omnivory minus vegetables. No i do low carb omnivore minus veggies and my energy is much smoother and sustained compared to the more erratic energy of high carb diets.

How many carbs do you guys eat a day. For the past month I've only had a teaspoon of honey, 1-3 pieces of fruit, and the occasional couple of teaspoons of jam or almond butter. I don't think that puts Mr over 100 g at the worst, usually it wasn't that high. For the past 3 days I've been Vlc with today being one teaspoon of honey with my fat. I feel really good after tonights meal: 5 oz suet, 4 oz salmon, 4 oz liver, little honey. I think I'm in ketosis. What do you guys think?

How many carbs do you guys eat a day.

My good level is under 30 g, usually wa-a-a-ay under 30. I have medical reasons for keeping it that low. At the onset, going into ketosis depends on how much glycogen is stored in your liver and muscles. The glycogen has to be burned off first. When the glycogen is all gone, you start burning fat, and the ketones appear as a by-product. (Simplified explanation by a non-scientist.)

I eat about 1g per day. If you've only been eating 5 oz suet, 4 oz salmon, 4 oz liver, little honey for the past few days you are well on your way. You are most likely in the adaption stage.

I kinda feel late in the adaptation stage. Because I've been off adderall for 4 days now and coffee for about 12 I think, and I remember making a conscious decision to severely for carbs when I cut coffee so I didn't have to deal with the constant up and down of blood sugar. I don't know if adderall prevents ketosis but I stopped because I was eating so good that it made me feel worse rather than better.

I guess when I'm keto I'll know right?

Yes, you will know. A good indicator of being in ketosis would be a sudden loss of 4+ pounds in a week. This would be due to glycogen and water loss. If I change my diet to a carb based one I gain about 8 lbs in 3 days (water weight for the most part). After switching back to a keto diet after those 3 days it takes me about 5 days to drop these 8 lbs. Good for you for dropping the Adderall and coffee! You shouldn't need either one on a ketogenic diet anyway :)

Just wanted to make it clear that an initial weight loss of 4+ lbs in a week (water and glycogen loss) is also a great indicator of being in ketosis; whether or not you are restricting calories.

How much I spend monthly for food ? I don't know... because it varies widely according to the season, what is available at the time and my appetite. I do not count. But overall, I think I don't spend more than when I ate cooked food and probably less if everything is taken into account.

By the way, I live now in Algarve west coast, Portugal. Just moved on the 15th of June, so I've been busy and without Internet connection for a few weeks.

I mean, I am butchering meat and organs for the dogs here and found out the butcher does not charge us a cent..
Whenever they slaughter an animal, he would put aside (for our dogs) organs and other parts people do not usually buy.
Organs like liver, heart, kidneys sometimes tongue also.
And it is all grass fed. Once I got the whole trachea and it was full of pieces of grass inside.

As I realized it, I thought about you guys.

Is there someone who managed to get meat/organs for free saying it was for the dogs?

Because here, you could live pretty cheap.  l)

I want to eat more fat (besides raw butter and raw cream) what is the difference between back fat and suet? and how do you eat it? I see you're eating much more fat than protein yet the mixture above is 16-17% fat mixed in with meat.
I meant how do you prepare it for eating, the 83-84% fat that is not mixed in with the meat.

I prefer fat trimmings and back fat over suet. When I first started the diet I wasn't able to digest suet well so I switched over and wound up just staying away from it. Personally, I find suet to be dry and way less tastier than other fatty parts of the animal as well. The only preparing I do is thawing it in the fridge and then slicing it in chunks before eating.

I usually cube grassfed beef back fat and eat it. I savor the taste and texture.

P.S. I'm in San Jose.

(I call it the "lesbian seafood truck" ROFL)
Really, so they are from the island of Lesbos ? ;)

I am told we budget 700 - 750 CAND.

We plan to buy bulk and we are still finding sources, so it should come down in price.

Also we are getting 2 -3 chickens and bees (2 hives) in a few weeks.

We have cherry, peach, fig, raspberries, prune plum, apple and pear trees.

I also like the beef fat from muscle meat trimmings. I don't like suet. I think eating beef fat instead of butter significantly brings down the cost of food. I've seen butter selling for $10+/lb, and I pay about $3/lb (includes shipping) for beef fat. I assume both have about the same fat content.

I haven't bought anything from Slankers in over a year so recently I looked at their prices and they are way above from what they used to be.  What gives?

Fortunately, I'm getting half a steer every 6 months from Amish for 3.7/lb , and maybe a sheep now and then .  But kind of short on organs.  Burgundy beef has decent prices but their shipping bites.

Anyone got better sources online?
