my first Slankers order!

My co op just closed down for a period undetermined so I had to quickly find another source of large amounts of high quality food. Hopefully the co op will be taken up by someone else soon, but in the meantime I'm going to try Slankers which Lex brought to my attention.

First off the site is great, it even has health information such as paleo diet links and benefits of grass fed information. There's a lot of different stuff on here but I'm going to try and keep it simple for now, anyone else who uses Slankers maybe you can give me some advice.

Here's what I'm ordering:

12 lbs beef cubes
12 lbs suet/fat
3 lbs liver
1 lb kidneys and spleen (to try it, first time)
2 lbs marrow bones
1 lb ground beef
5 lbs chicken thighs

Next time I might try a bunch of bison because it looks to be the same price as the beef.

Oysters - 2 of 'em
stew meat = 8 lbs


I was also going to order 12 lbs of suet, 8 lbs of ground beef, and 8 lbs of chili meat, but I'm living in my parents house over the summer and they said they will not let me eat suet while here (that's okay... I'm thankful enough they let me eat raw meat in the first place!)
so instead, I ordered 25 lbs of 75% lean ground beef from US Wellness meats.
I'll be ordering the above things from Slankers though instead next time, when I'm off at school!

I can't wait! I've not had any organs other than liver before, so I had better learn to like the others!

I tried the suet for the first time today. It stuck to my mouth funny but didn't really taste like anything. The only part I didn't like was sometimes there were little fleshy parts that tasted like organs mixed in. I realized I'm pretty much a wuss when it comes to eating the more adventurous parts of animals and I'm going to have to work up to it.

Remove the bits of organ if your not ready yet. I also find the longer you chew suet the tastier it gets but definitely not in the same league as marrow from the shin bone. I mix mine with ground beef or ground cheek. We don't have time to eat all day like paleo hunters did so  mixing it up allows us to swallow it easily. Dinner can be over in 20min if you keep it simple. I also keep my mixer in the fridge and rarely wash it!

PS don't overdo the suet, its very energy rich and you may not have learnt yet to know when you are full on fat.

 just got in another order form Slankers which I've been starving for, and all the entire thing is completely thawed.

usually stuff is mostly frozen still with some thaw, but I feel rotten now about refrezing all this crap. any experiences with such?

I've refrozen food from Slankers without issue.
Did delivery get delayed or was it poorly insulated?

seemed to get delivered at the same time as before with the same packing.  *shrugs*

it says on the info page that as long as it stays below 40 it is 'safe' and then gives a bunch of options but says refreezing "will do no harm". but the stuff I got, some of it was practically room temp already. I ate it right out of the packaging. :/

I did end up re-freezing alot of it. foolishly I should have taken the opportunity to divide up the suet while it was thawed. doh.

On the counter, usually overnight or while I'm at work.
I've been eating more this summer though so if I need to thaw something quickly I've been leaving it outside in the heat and sun to thaw quicker.
