General Discussion / Re: Is variety important?

I live in the western US and most of my coconuts and fruits are from Florida. It's still a long distance but the same country.

I live in high desert so pretty much all food is imported.

General Discussion / Is variety important?
« on: September 07, 2018, 02:52:34 pm »
This is probably a dumb question, but is it healthy/safe to eat a limited variety of food? For the past month or so I have been eating pretty much the same thing everyday. For breakfast and dinner I eat ia ota, basically it's cubes of raw meat or fish marinated in lime juice and sea salt with vegetables and coconut. I mostly use wild seafood and occasionally grassfed bison or lamb heart and I make 2 versions. One is with tomatoes, cucumber, green onions and jalapeno or habanero and the other is with pineapple and dragon fruit and I add fresh coconut cream. Between the 2 meals I eat tropical fruits like banana, papaya, guava ect. Eating like this makes me feel much better than I have in many years. I have a lot more stamina, I feel stronger, I think more clearly and sleep better plus my muscles are getting bigger without me changing the way I exercise.

This is in response to surfsteve about omega 3. There is only a minor difference.

I couldn't care less about my sperm count/quality because I don't plan on ever having kids.

General Discussion / Anybody eat lungs?
« on: July 21, 2017, 07:30:32 am »
I found a place that sells bison lungs and I'm curious about trying them. Does anyone here have experience eating them? Are there parts that are inedible and should be removed, is it tough and chewy?

Primal Diet / Re: how much organ meat to muscle meat?

surfsteve where do you get the ground beef heart?

8
What about meat that's fed occasional grain? The place I buy elk from sometimes feeds them supplemental oats in the winter.

Some people might do so if it involved bringing back  one whole carcass that lasts for months in the freezer or, better still, chill-room.

They don't include the organs or marrow, even with a "whole" carcass. Maybe if they did sell the organs or had more choices I would be willing to make the drive, but they only have big packs that come with cuts I don't like and they trim off pretty much all the fat.

Health / Re: How do you get over your addiction to cooked food?
« on: June 05, 2017, 06:28:32 pm »
I don't crave cooked foods in general, my main problem is sugar because I have a major sweet tooth.

Support your local farmer, Dexters are hardy like bison and are popular throughout the country.

Not really an option for me as I live in the desert. The closest ranch with grass fed meat is over 60 miles away and I'm not going to drive that far just to pick up meat.

I get diarrhea from salami too, even before I went raw. Now just the smell of salami makes me queasy. I never had any problems with pepperoni though.

After some experimenting I realized it was eating raw lean meat that caused digestive problems. If I eat fatty meat there is no problem so I have been eating lots of 55% lean ground beef and 65% lean ground beef with heart and liver mixed in. I take a little bit of the beef and dip it in sea salt before each bite, this seems to have completely stopped the constant foot cramps that been plaguing me since I was a teen. I have also been aging lamb tongues in the fridge and eat small amounts with the ground beef. I still eat bison and elk jerky just less of it.

I use a Nesco FD-61. I think I paid around $50 usd for it and it comes with 5 trays and you can add more. I set the temperature to 95 and it usually takes about 48 hours for the meat to dry.

I'm part Choctaw so I'm somewhat familiar with the stories of the Nahullo, a race of white cannibals who were supposedly 10 feet tall and were the mound builders. The stories say the Nahullo were already around when the Choctaw started to move into the southern US and they hated each other and would kill each other on sight until the Nahullo were wiped out. When the Spanish and French explorers came the Choctaw told them about the Nahullo and they thought it was primitive superstition.

I'm not surprised by this. A lot of Native American tribes had stories about tall red-headed people who they say were here before them. Most of the stories said the red-headed people were really aggressive and would constantly wage war on them.

I have read about a few different diets like this based on genetic background or blood type and I don't know if I believe any of it. I am a mix of German, Scandinavian, Scottish highlander and Choctaw but seem to be able to eat pretty much anything. I have tried a pescatarian type diet of mostly fish and coconut with tropical fruits, a completely carnivorous diet and Mediterranean style diet without the grains and felt good on all of them. Of course I feel the best on a raw diet, the only thing that seems to matter is eating lots of fat.

HelpMeToHelpEwe- The only information I can find about the Warka tower is the inventor making claims about how much water it can produce, which is far less than the average Westerner uses. It can supposedly make 25 gallons per day while a family of four typically uses over 300 gallons per day. Get back to me when they can make these devices large and effective to generate enough daily water for a heavily populated state like California so they won't have to deal with droughts anymore.

goodsamaritan- Let's just keep breeding like rabbits so instead of 7 billion humans there will be 100 billion. That way there is no more land left to raise animals or grow crops or build the water generating device HelpMeToHelpEwe thinks will save the world. Do you want your descendants to end up eating lab grown "meat" or do know of some magical invention that could feed that many people?

Exactly. Population always concentrate on the most suitable habitats: towns have been built on the best places, on river banks or lake shores.

We have several small lakes in town and the pollution I mentioned was caused by a combination of waste/sewage being dumped into them and intensive mining in the mountains in the 1800s that caused toxic run off into the rivers and streams that feed the lakes. Luckily there are 2 big lakes within a 35-40 drive outside of the city that have clean water where we can catch salmon, trout, bass and crawfish pretty much year round.

Just because there is a lot of empty land doesn't mean it could be used for food production  or settlement. My state is mostly desert and a lot of the water has arsenic or mercury. Some lakes had massive die offs of fish and waterfowl because of the toxins and some pets were severely sickened by drinking or playing in the water.

This will make me sound heartless but I'll say it anyway, I hope this is true so the weak will be weeded out like what happened during the little ice ages in the 1600s and 1700s. The Earth could use a reduction in human population.

My friends 5 year old daughter has had several teeth removed and may already have diabetes because they have basically given her nothing but fruit juice, cereal, mac and cheese and candy since she was old enough to have solid food.

Ok, I got my fridge down to around 35. I hung an elk round roast and will leave it in there for a few weeks to see how it turns out.
