General Discussion / Re: Anybody use stevia?
« on: January 19, 2009, 08:19:35 pm »
Get a potted stevia plant and plant it in your garden.
Pick a few fresh leaves when you want to taste something sweet.

My sister-in-law has one in a pot and it does taste sweet. I didn't taste the nasty aftertaste that people speak of. There was a little bit of an aftertaste but it wasn't bad tasting.

Depends on how people define child.
Until 1990, the marrying age for women in my country was 14.
They raised the marrying age to 18.
Now there are clamors to raise the marrying age to 24.

So the definition of a child gets re-defined each year in each country.

And if we are to ban what people define as child porn, let's just ban all of porn all together... then we go to what defines porn.

I remembering emailing my sister in the USA naked pictures of my children 1,2 and 4 years old then.  And she explains that in the USA naked pictures of children are considered porn...

My point is, until one world government comes along, how can we ever get to synchronize laws and regulations?

In the US, thirteen-year-olds can get married with parental consent. This usually only happens if one of the children becomes pregnant. They can reproduce, marry, but still not be allowed to participate in pornography. They cannot obtain a driver's license, drink, join the military, and still must have to attend school.

It will be a long time before there is one world government. That's why there is a need for limited censorship.
I don't think your sister would be arrested for having those pictures, as they are family pics, with no child porn in her possession,  but if they were to end up elsewhere on the Internet, on a kiddie porn site, you'd probably be angry as hell. Someone could have intercepted those pics in transit. This is just an unlikely supposition. I'm not that paranoid. Just stating what could be.

My opinion is that banning porn altogether wouldn't really hurt the Internet. Sure, anonymity helps in buying/viewing porn, but would everyone give up the Internet without it? I think not. "Darn! Porn is gone. I'm not going to look for anything else that I'm interested in."

I'm only using your post as an example. It's actually to all participants.

I asked this in the Primal Diet section too: http://www.rawpaleoforum.com/primal-diet/brushing-teeth-primal-style/

I've tried using only baking soda by itself, it doesn't last. It causes salivation and gets spit out too soon. Using butter or maybe coconut oil, along with it, will keep it from disolving and really does make a difference.

Even parasites have parasites http://www.ebiomedia.com/Note-Book/Fleas-have-Fleas-Observing-A-Paramecium-Parasite.html  We are the parasites of the Earth and if we're responsible for the Earth, and parasites are responsible for our behavior, it might stem all the way down to the very bottom and come up.

I once adopted a stray cat. She stayed outside, except when I got her spayed. She would bring home all kinds of critters. I'm wondering if I'm safer than someone who's had an indoor housecat.

"Most" blood donors are healthier than non due to lower iron. Now-a-days, blood-sucking organisms, such as lice are a rarity in the western world. I wonder if it was the same with toxoplasmosis? There does seem to be more of a trend towards convergence of the sexes now, than as evidenced in the past, in what are industrialized, modern societies today.

By the way, there was 1 case sometime in the 80s, I think, where an American citizen from Wisconsin or some similiar neighbouring State exploited the fact that there was no local State law against Bestiality (or marrying animals?), so was able to (legally) marry his horse. Of course, he got a lot of hate-mail from the public, who felt that he was making a mockery of the USA, but he got away with it.

I can't really find much about this other than an episode of Jerry Springer that never aired but I can't help but think that the "legally" part is an urban myth. I wouldn't doubt there may be someone out there who's married his horse in an unofficial capacity.  Did the horse have a birth certificate and other forms of ID to obtain a marriage license? How did the horse sign it? Dexterous lips? What were the horses vows? He must have married Mr. Ed.  ;)  At any rate, very humorous!

Secondly, the whole business of child porn is hopelessly overblown. Judging from media reports, one finds that almost all such websites feature made-up/photoshopped fake pictures of children being abused. The way I see it, such websites allow people with unusual tendencies to get rid of them/sulbimate them  in a way that doesn't harm others. I certainly don't think that someone should be prosecuted, therefore, for merely watching such images online, as they are not directly harming anyone in any way.

What you speak of is not real child porn but could be taken as such. Take a look at the countries that already ban and censor the real thing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_censorship. Most developed countries do but there are those that have no restrictions whatsoever and people can use anonymous proxys to get to them.

Even being allowed access to anything that resembles child porn will tempt a pedophile to commit the act whether it be barely leagal or illeagal porn and have the same ramifications.

There's also a big difference between pre and post puberty porn. That is, people attracted to four-year-olds are not going to be satisfied with sixteen-year-olds who have secondary sex characheristics but are still easily taken advantage of.

I'd just like to address a few points. First of all , the primary reason why the Internet got going in the first place  was because of all the porn sites that were there from the beginning|(indeed, at one point, porn consisted of something like 80-90%+  of the Internet). So porn actually helped the Internet grow, regardless of what one's personal view is of porn.

I believe "sex" was and still is the most searched for word on the Internet but the Internet got started by the military and science community as a way to easily and privately communicate over long distances. http://www.isoc.org/internet/history/brief.shtml

This is where I see a major difference. If you're an adult and want to "hurt" yourself by anyones definition, fine but when it comes to things like child porn, I would like to see them censored. Children are being abused because some bastard wants to make money. Also, those sites do nothing more than get pedophiles riled up so that they're more likely to go out and find children to molest themselves.

Blue Host does have certain restrictions as to what kind of sites they will host. They won't host any porn at all and child porn is illegal period. The problem is is that people get hosting in foreign countries where laws are not enforced. Just my opinion but these sites should be censored. I don't think we'll have to worry about too much censorship in the US. There's the anarchistcookbook.com and if censorship does go further, that site will be gone long before this one. Even Australia censors hard-core porn but I don't really see that going much further. If it gets to the point that pro-anorexia and anarchists sites start becoming censored, that's when I'd start worrying about sites like this one getting lumped in with them but I do believe that would be, and is a problem more for citizens of other countries, which is just as disconcerting.

Many people are afraid of gay marriage because of what they think it might lead to. People being allowed to eventually marry animals or children, which is absolutely ridiculous. It may not be the best analogy but you get the picture. For me, being afraid of what something might lead to, isn't a good enough reason to do away with it altogether whether it be gay marriage, regulation of banks, or Internet censorship. Just my opinion.

Happy New Year!

P.S. Usually, the best way to pique my curiosity is to tell me not to look for/at something but I'll heed your warning this time. I once got smacked in the face with a wave because I was told "DON'T TURN AROUND!" while I was in the water.  :)

:o It's complete ignorance! We could get placed in the same category as "how to commit suicide" and "anorexic tips" sites just because of advocating raw animal foods?

Everyone should choose who is put in office very carefully. Banks should be regulated and the Internet too but with good, knowlegeable reason - not ignorance!    >:

If you can’t bear to watch slaughtering an animal then you are not allowed to eat it. This is what I teach my children. This is a basic philosophy, provincial children see this all the time, my city raised children need the same education.  *** Remember that we are Filipinos living in the Philippines and that slaughtering animals in our own back yard is socially acceptable… if in your country and culture you find seeing a duck slaughtered offensive, do not view the rest of this article as there are 2 pictures.

http://www.myhealthblog.org/2008/12/25/ducks-slaughtered-with-the-kids-watching-with-pictures-and-video

We did that in Ag, short for "Agriculture" (bad NON-Paleo word!) class in Junior High School. The quick slaughter of birds or other livestock and the growing of plants weren't and aren't offensive to us at all.

We have in the U.S. what's called the Future Farmers of America (FFA). It's sort of like the R.O.T.C of Agriculture but included/includes farming.

I forgot I'm a Neandethal German. I'll have to change that!

what is your eating style, waungata: bolting or chewing?

Coconinoz,

I bolt, chew, or do a combo of taking a bite, taking a couple chews, and swalling. I suppose it's relative to and when I'm eating what.

I believed all the hoopla about toothsoap but it never seemed to make much of a difference. It did make my teath darker. You'd have thought that I drank coffee, tea, and smoked all day long!

Adding bicabonate of soda made a little differnce but adding clay made quite a bit of difference. To add to that, I've found butter and clay the best! The raw-vegan-induced enamel rot has gotten lighter as well as the rest of my teeth. The spots that disintigrated haven't come back but the enamel along the gumline hasn't given me any problems what-so-ever! My teeth feel and look stronger.

Anyone have a Raw Paleo substitute for butter? No offence to Primal Dieters.

Perhaps we aren't supposed to be fraking like bunnies in the first place. As far as I know, both methods have some good info backing them up. As you probably know there are several diet versions out there already, but still we are experimenting as we go.

Who knows, maybe that'll be my New years Resolution! To quote Panda "I eat when I'm upset" WHAAAA!!!!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Avalon  ;D

Merry Christmas to you-all too!

Who would want to fuck like bunnies when starved? No one! Intermittent fasting, especially on RAW paleo IF, has the same effect regarding longevity as calorie restriction without those negative side-effects. You aren't starving on IF, you're just giving your system the break it needs without starving it of nutrients.

Christ, such videos of endless, drawn-out slaughter almost make me want to go vegan! Why can't they have the guts to make a quicker kill. Still, from their POV, I suppose, they can't easily get hold of doctors to fix broken bones etc., so they need to be more careful.

Re african descent:- Perhaps, if one goes far back enough, a million years or so. Personally, I'm a believer in the multiregional hypothesis, where various peoples mixed together, in and outside Africa, to form modern man(eg:- inbreeding with neanderthals etc.). Trouble is that people have such a creationist view of human evolution(even scientists) that they are reluctant to admit that our ancestors could have interbred with "mere apemen" - actually, more and more evidence exists to show that Neanderthals were as intelligent as modern humans, able to speak etc.

I also believe in the multiregional hypothysis. Regarding the Neanderthal, I recently read in National Geographic that Neanderthals had genes assocciated with speech, red hair, and light skin. They also had larger brains than modern humans (even of that time) but they were not physically as co-ordinated. Hence the evidence of once-broken but healed bones...such as those of modern rodeo bull and bronco riders. They would thrust their spears into their prey instead of throwing them. Neanderthals had a much stronger arm than the other. Their inner ear canal was smaller than that of the modern humas suggesting that they were less agile and most likely ambush hunters.

I believe that there were waves of humans out of Africa and into Europe and Asia who inter-bred with the local populatons from previous waves and then went back the other way TO Africa as well.

Chasing down a half ton animal with just a spear takes more guts than any other type of hunting I've ever heard of. $1,000 to anyone that can do that on this forum.

That's true. Quick slaughtering is what we're used to and comfortable with in our modern society. As a matter of life and death, yes, I'd kill anything any way I could in order to survive and feed loved ones. I must agree though, that these videos are vegan fodder (forgive the pun).   ;D

After some time, it really does taste better, even appetizing.  I could barely eat Slanker's dog & cat raw, let alone cooked. Raw liver would make me gag. No more! I actually like the taste of them now. I have to sneak them down rather than stomach them down now.

Don't eat too much organ meat though. You could get a fat-soluble vitamin toxicity. I'd go with the 10% recommended until you get a feel and hankering for them, which will come with time.

How many of you brush your teeth with butter and clay? I've tried it with butter and clay, butter and baking soda, and plain soap with and without clay and/or baking soda. Adding minerals does seem to whiten the enamel, especially after going a long period with only using soap.

Coconinoz,

As a raw vegan and having practiced Victoria Boutenko's book, "Green for Life," I have much experience with acidic saliva and rotted teeth. Nothing I did as a raw vegan corrected the condition, not even green smoothies, except for drinking fizzies made of lemon juice and baking soda. And that was immediately afterward and short-lived. My teeth continued to get clearer and eventually the clear spots disintegrated. They were also very tender around the gums. Since going raw paleo, they look somewhtat better and feel a whole lot better.

I don't have test strips handy at the moment but last I checked, my saliva was alkaline. Green smoothies never did anything for my saliva's alkalinity in the long run, only temporarily. After everything I'd read, I couldn't believe it when I saw that eatiyng raw meat actuallly made my saliva alkaline!

As for lower stomach pH, anything made from wheat will make my stomach so acidic that
I'll vomit. In that regard, wheat's not good for teeth either.
