General Discussion / Re: brain size
« on: February 21, 2011, 09:04:52 am »
Yes, I reported that the traditional Greenland Inuit had the largest skull sizes (and therefore brain sizes, but that's a less politically correct way of putting it ;) ) measured among living humans in a thread with the exact same "brain size" title: http://www.rawpaleoforum.com/general-discussion/brain-size/msg23790/#msg23790

Not only did the traditional Inuit have rather (facultatively) carnivorous diets, but the Greenland Inuit were the most carnivorous among the Inuit and the most carnivorous people ever observed and analyzed. In light of this, I can't imagine how an objective person would dismiss a possible important connection between flesh eating and brain size and instead focus on cooking, as Wrangham seems to do.
Were the Greenland Inuit also raw?

General Discussion / Re: High vs. Fermented Meat
« on: February 21, 2011, 05:06:48 am »
High meat can't be fermented. Fermenting is when yeast and bacteria break down sugar into alcohol. It might be possible with liver but there isn't even a full gram of sugar in pound of muscle meat so its not going to happen unless you add something to it.

Off Topic / Re: To much omega 3?
« on: February 20, 2011, 05:23:39 pm »
Well I keep going back to Eskimos having a diet high in fish which are super high in omega 3 but low in omega 6. Some being as high as 7:1, it could explain the heart disease. The high calcium to magnesium ratio could also explain the osteoporosis.

Just wondering if too much omega 3 has side effects like having too much omega 6.

No.

Im in israel the "Holy Land" where grass exists only 2 month in a year because of rain problem etc etc

Of course I can find pastured meat but not grasfed it makes me sad :(

Well what animals live out there? No need for beef as long as the animals your eating are eating the diet they were designed to eat.

I didn't know cashews were poisonous, and won't be eating them anymore.   :(

And I looked on eatwild.com, and it shows the nearest farm to me to be like 40+ miles away which is not a drive I'm willing to make regularly.

That sucks, I have a monthly co-op and just stick the meat in my freezer. If I ever want fresh I can just go get some from whole foods. Do you not have a whole foods near you?

Okay not actually 75% of people but a large portion of our population.

What's bad about the place? Are you talking about the city itself or the whole metro area? There must be some nice suburbs there.
Lol I live in one of the nicest suburbs but when people have money they become ass holes for some reason. Everyone is just an unreasonable here. You ever watch how rediculous some people are like in Jersey shore? Imagine 75% of people around you being like that.

There is no proof anyone can live 100 years eating all highly processed cooked foods.
The junk food diet was born only a few decades ago.
Even WacDonalds served good food until recently, maybe 30 years ago tops.
If an old person can survive to 100 right now doing that,
it is because their body was well established back when all food was high quality.
+1. Also there was a study done that said for the first time in like a couple hundred years the children of our generation will die younger than their parents. I guess medicine can only keep you artificially alive so much, but if you kill yourself quicker then ever before even that will fail.

General Discussion / Re: What do yo do with fish with visible parasites?
« on: February 18, 2011, 12:51:36 pm »
Have you met my friend, GARLIC?   8)

These concerns really do not frighten me.
I would be shocked if we were not eating parasites on a daily basis from cooked or raw healthy animals.
Once I did an experiment with cooked beef kidney,
I put it in a jar where no flies could get to it and worms grew within.
Cooking probably does not kill everything, as many would assume.
How thoroughly did you cook it? Also yuli (i believe it was her) once mentioned purposely eating a piece of fish with a huge parasite problem. She had a stomach ache for an hour and then the next day saw the worms get excreted.

General Discussion / Re: Feeling and looking a bit seedy
« on: February 18, 2011, 11:09:55 am »
You asking me, or someone else?

My typical meal is a pound of deer meat/tendon with some GF-GF cattle suet and a small dab of raw honey to make it palatable.  I'd guess 60-80% of my calories come from the fat, the rest from muscle/tendon and other foods I eat during the day like a piece of fruit.
No sorry the q was directed to Josh. But I do have a question for you. Did you have trouble gaining weight before raw paleo? Also if its not to personal how tall are you?

I just want to make sure. Your eating 70-80% cals from fat not by weight, right?

We noticed them scratching their eyes until they were really inflamed. We went to a vet and they had to take anti-histamines and eye wipes. Eventually my family agreed to get them a blood test for allergies.

I know and yes...unfortunately we have done some home tests at home as well. He is allergic to basically all meat even grass-fed organic, he scratches his eyes and they become very inflamed if we keep feeding them meat. I want to do raw but my mom refuses to try it atm but eventually hopefully I will sway my family to let them. In the meantime we are going to try organic brown rice a bunch of veggies and try one of the meats that they aren't super allergic to. If everything clears up I might give them a small piece of raw grass fed beef and see if it effects them. If it does then Im not sure what to do.

We got back some allergy tests, they are super allergic to most meats. Hes not allergic to soybeans, rice, chicken and pork. I guess it makes sense, they are shih tzus which means they were originally bread in China.

I have definately experienced a taste change in many raw foods but at the same time I still like the new taste? Should I stop eating when the change occurs?

Health / Re: Prostate Problems All Cured with RPD?
« on: February 17, 2011, 09:53:18 am »
I don't care for the word "cure," but I have a relative with a somewhat high PSA score, so I'm bumping this thread. I know that at least one study has shown vitamin K2 to be beneficial as regards prostate and other cancers. Anyone have any other tips re: high PSA and minimizing risk of prostate cancer?
A family member of mine uses palmetto with positive results.

Have any of you gotten any tests done to explain these carb intolerances?

Welcoming Committee / Re: insects anyone?
« on: February 17, 2011, 08:34:18 am »
hey guys,

reading your posts I have to admit that I'm a coward. I think I could never eat insects. I can't even explain why...
Perhaps it's the texture of worms etc. that strikes me most...
But it's still interesting to see that other people have an opposite opinion.
Saludos de Barcelona

Its just a taboo in most modern cultures. If you grew up with it you wouldn't think twice.
