Hot Topics / Massive health problems. Good bye raw paleo!
« on: June 22, 2013, 05:50:37 pm »
It's my duty to share my very disappointing experiences of the last months with you.

I got massive health problems on my raw paleo low carb diet. At the beginning I felt very energetic, strong, healthy and sometimes even euphoric. Unfortunately things went differently.

What have I eaten?

Mainly fruits, wild game meats and grass fed beef. 100.0% raw. Zero grain fed meat. Zero dairy. Wild fish and seafood 1-2 times per week. Low carb, high animal fat.  Main calories came from grass fed beef fat. Carb intake between 0 and 80 grams per day. Round about 75% of the meats were frozen.

What happened?

- I ended up in hospital for the first time in my life.
- massive inflammations in several parts of my body
- gastritis
- sharp pain in my colon
- diarrhea and bloating
- colonoscopies revealed inflammations of the appendix and the whole colon
- lab tests showed high levels of clostridium perfringens
- a colon tumor was found and removed
- huge inflammatory eczemas
- persistent eye infections
- extreme irritability and nervousness
- sometimes heart problems
- impaired glucose tolerance
- dental calculus

I started my raw food journey 13 years ago. Vegan diets as well as high fruit low fat raw paleo diets never caused such inflammations in my body. I believe that the colon tumor was a result of these inflammations. I felt very frustrated when I got the message. Unfortunately a fruit based raw paleo diet is no solution in the long-run. I have already damaged my skin, joints, teeth etc. too much on such a raw food diet. In my case all the inflammations were clearly caused by raw animal fats, beef fat and wild boar fat.

The interesting thing here is that the same fats do not cause inflammation, diarrhea and pain if I eat them cooked.

The inflammations became so aggressive that I needed cortisone. I'm now very slowly recovering on a cooked paleo low carb diet. Cooked vegetables have been very helpful in reducing inflammation. I can't digest raw broccoli and other hard vegetables. They irritate my gi tract. To be honest, I'm nevertheless still not "healed" from the idea of a raw food diet. Because, as we all know, a raw food diet is the way to eternal youth, immortality and paradise. Unfortunately fruits accelerated the aging process of my body like no other substance. Unfortunately raw grass fed animal fats gave me inflammations (Michael Eades has written about this problem), a tumor, eczemas and irritability. Unfortunately my body can't handle raw vegetables...

Good bye!

The old question: How much protein?

Greg Ellis believes that at least 2.2 grams of protein per kg bodyweight are optimal for our immune system and overall health:

General Discussion / Overdosing iodine with natural foods impossible?
« on: February 11, 2013, 07:37:50 pm »
The author says that bromines in seaweeds prevent iodine ovderdosis (from seaweeds) in our bodies.

Taken from:

http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/iodine.html

"Seaweed contains both iodine and bromine, which generally means you can't overdose on iodine. The reason is simple: bromine displaces iodine. But when bromine and iodine are present together, it makes for iodine bioavailability, while bakery products high in bromine will displace the iodine. The interesting thing is when bromine and iodine (found in nature) as in seaweed are found together, once the body doesn't need iodine it can easily be removed due to the presence of bromine. I have not seen any case of excess iodine consumption from taking of seaweed, but I have seen quite often excess consumption of iodine when they are added in the salt and taken too much. The reason is nature presents us with many minerals in their respective ratios and their antagonism preventing such an overdose and allowing the body to achieve greater equilibrium. This issue appears to be consuming foods from natural rather than chemical if you fear of any possible overdose."

Off Topic / Andreas Moritz is dead
« on: October 27, 2012, 09:22:19 pm »
The well known vegetarian Andreas Moritz is dead:

http://www.ener-chi.com/

He has written many books about diet and health. He recommended a diet based on carbs + fats, thought that animal protein causes cancer and heart disease and spreaded nonsense like his liver flush and liver stones theories. Nevertheless, I found some of his articles very interesting and inspiring.

It's sad and shocking that he died so young. He always looked very healthy. As far as I know he was round about 60 years old.

Does anybody know the cause of his death?

General Discussion / Synthetic vitamin C causes atherosclerosis
« on: October 27, 2012, 12:03:26 am »
I never understood how people can trust artificial products like vitamin pills.

Here is a nice article about synthetic vitamins:

http://drmarkbernhard.com/articles/the-whole-truth-about-vitamins

Among other things, the author of the article mentions three studies about synthetic vitamin C:

1998: A British study found that 500 mg of synthetic C promoted free radical damage of DNA; the opposite of the findings with whole food vitamin C, a natural anti-oxidant.

2000: Reuters Health reports a study on men who took 500 mg of synthetic vitamin C daily. Over an 18-month period, they had a 250% increase in the thickness of the inner lining of the carotid artery, a measurement for the progression of atherosclerosis. That is, synthetic vitamin C induced atherosclerosis, even at .5 grams/day. Whole food vitamin C protects and repairs the inner lining of blood vessels and is a preventative against atherosclerosis.

2003: A study of men taking 500 mg of synthetic Vitamin C daily found that, over an 18 month period, they had a 250% increase in the inner lining of the carotid artery. This thickening is a measurement of the progression of atherosclerosis. In other words, synthetic Vitamin C induced atherosclerosis even at a dose of 500 mg per day.

General Discussion / How many carbs do Raw Paleo Dieters eat?
« on: March 15, 2012, 06:31:36 pm »
My optimal range lies between 20 and 80 grams per day.

Lower during winter, higher during summer times.

My carb sources are usually fruits and recently some green juices like fennel and endive.

How many carbs DO YOU eat on average?

Here is a video with Douglas Graham, long-term LOW FAT raw vegan, author of the book 801010 diet.

At 3:00 min you can see the skin of his face and throat in a close-up view. It's really shocking:

Hardest Push-Up On the Planet

I have never seen an 58 year "young" man with so heavily DESTROYED skin. Never! Such videos are a good reminder to me to avoid high amounts of fruit sugar. I can still see some skin damage in my face from high fruit consumption in the past.

I have the feeling that fruit sugar becomes more and more destructive with every year of age. That's very devious, isn't it? Because all young people look really good when they start eating tons of fruit.

German scientist Prof. Harald zur Hausen believes that heat-created toxins are not the main cause for colorectal cancer but viruses in raw beef:

"Previous studies have linked diets high in red meat to CRC. The link has been primarily attributed to exposure to three main families of
carcinogens generated through cooking, processing or curing of meats. However these compounds are also produced when cooking fish and white meat, which do not confer risk of CRC."

Pure Fruit - a film by Emile Bokaer

I have to say that I feel sorry for these two people. They follow a fruitarian diet, they don't want to kill animals and so

they sacrifice their own bodies.

A fruitarian diet is a nice idea but we have to pay a very high price for this ideal. Fruitarians age much faster, it's shocking. Other examples are Michael Arnstein, Anne Osborne, Doug Graham etc..

The other extreme is a Lex Rooker - Zero Carb diet. Somehow we raw foodists tend to extremes. Is it the wish to live forever?

General Discussion / Raw paleo diet and BODY ODOR
« on: January 07, 2012, 08:51:44 pm »
Hi raw paleo dieters,

what are your experiences with raw paleo diets and body odor?

If I rely on raw animal fats as major energy source I get strong and unpleasant body odor.

This is one of many other reasons why I switched to coconut fat.

Raw Fruits + raw coconut fat + raw wild fish + raw lean wild meats + salads = zero body odor.

Carbohydrate Intake: A Risk Factor for Biliary Sludge and Stones During Pregnancy (Abstract #322)

High consumption of carbohydrates, starches and fructose increases the risk of developing gallstones during pregnancy, according to a new study from the University of Washington (UW).

"Although further clinical studies are now needed, our results suggest that decreasing intake of carbohydrates, starches and fructose during pregnancy may decrease the risk of forming gallstones," said Cynthia Ko, MD, associate professor of medicine.

Researchers found that the risk of gallbladder disease was significantly higher among women in the top 25 percent of total carbohydrate consumption compared with those in the bottom 25 percent, even after accounting for dietary intake of fat and protein. Starch and fructose consumption also indicated a higher risk.

Pregnant women are frequently diagnosed with gallstones, and gallstone-related diseases are the most common non-obstetric cause of hospitalization in the first year after a woman gives birth. With other studies in men and non-pregnant women tying high carbohydrate intake to gallbladder problems, the UW researchers focused on dietary risk factors for the development of gallstones during pregnancy and the incidence of consequent illnesses and surgeries.

Researchers enrolled 3,070 women during their first trimester and followed them until four to six weeks after the birth of their babies. Participants had three ultrasounds done during their pregnancies to look for gallstones and a final test post-partum. In addition, they completed a dietary history at 26 to 28 weeks.

General Discussion / Grass fed bison in South West Florida? PLEASE HELP!
« on: December 10, 2011, 11:11:33 pm »
Hi All,
Hi paleo dieters in the US,

I'm currently staying in Fort Myers.

WHERE can I buy grass fed bison in South West FLorida?

PLEASE HELP!    ;)

I'm really thankful for every recommendation. For me, raw bison is the absolute non-plus-ultra.

Thanks in advance..

Löwenherz

PS: So far I have only found Wholefoods in Naples as a possible source. But they have only a very small selection. And the staff there is even not sure if it is 100% grass fed.
