General Discussion / Alternatives to Suet
« on: December 29, 2011, 04:27:43 am »
Hello all,
I've found that my digestive system cannot really handle suet. I was wondering what the best alternatives are, as I do thrive on large amounts of fat.

Thank you,
zym.

A friend lent me Aajonus Vonderplanitz book Recipe for Living Without Disease. I have my own chickens and have great eggs but in his book AV says that the "protein in eggs is not utilized for cellular reproduction. They are utilized for regeneration and maintenance and cannot be substituted for meat except occasionally."

In my experience, Aajonus is right on the money on this."

Are eggs a good source of bioavailable fat then?

I think blending is fine, so long as you eat it within a few minutes of blending.

As far as sauces go, I meant dipping raw foods into sauces/dips.

Gotcha. Thanks CK.

bump. Do you all think that blending organ meats is fine? I prefer to drink liver sometimes rather than slice and eat it.

IFers, do you have to take into account when you workout and when you eat if you are only eating one time a day or does it not really matter?

I'm starting the 100 Pushup-in-a-row challenge with a friend of mine ( http://hundredpushups.com/ ). However, I've been finding myself doing more yoga than pushups as of late. I'm not sure how good it is for the body to do the same thing every day or every other day so I will likely do a modified workout routine from the site and incorporate yoga, walking, and crossfit on other days.

If this diet does remarkable things for my health over time I'll probably end up making a self-published zine about it. If that progresses, I'll make sure to let you all know and ask for input.

General Discussion / Re: Craving for Cooked Foods
« on: December 24, 2011, 11:57:08 am »
I found that I craved cooked food the more I ate it. I haven't eaten anything even lightly cooked in a week and therefore have had little interest in cooking. It also helps to find meats that I like. For instance, I usually want to cook heart cause it's a bit iffy for me regarding taste, but I love raw liver and skirt steak.

General Discussion / Re: Does covering meat cause "bad" bacteria to grow?
« on: December 22, 2011, 03:53:28 am »
I'm with PaleoPhil on this. That is definitely a concern of mine.

I just ate some beef heart that was sitting in a bowl almost entirely covered with its own blood for a week in the fridge, covered with saran wrap. It tasted a bit fermented (sour or alcoholic almost) and was surely a bit slimy. I aired it out a few days ago, but I was wondering if there could have been botulism growing in the blood because that would be an anaerobic envrionment. I'm a bit worried. Any thoughts?

If it could cause botulism, how do you treat it?

General Discussion / Discoloration / Color Differences
« on: December 20, 2011, 03:29:50 am »
Hey all,
So I bought a few pounds of fresh bison skirt steak, which was delivered fresh on Friday. I put it all in a bowl and haven't eaten that much of it until today (Monday). I was taking a look at each of the steaks and I was wondering why some cuts have a browner color and others are more red. There is some blood in the bottom of the bowl so that could be the cause, but I was also wondering if it was fermenting over the past few days. If it was fermenting I was worried that I didn't give it enough air (I'm still a bit worried about botulism during the fermentation process). Also, some of the cuts smell a bit.

Does botulism smell? Is this safe to eat?

Health / Re: Cooked meat and candida?
« on: December 19, 2011, 12:07:03 am »
I've been asking myself the same question. I have read that candida may be caused by a vitamin B6 deficiency, which is found only in raw animal foods. Also, I notice my digestive symptoms (including candida) feel worse on cooked meat and that I actually crave it (which I believe is the candida craving it).

Sometimes I get cravings for only fat after eating protein/fat meals earlier in the day. Is it unusual (or recommended) to eat a meal only of fat?

How much high meat do you eat? Is there a danger of eating too much? How do you (individually) prepare it?

Manage your cheating.
At least get the least harmful cooked food.

I'm healing my son with raw paleo diet and some 2 weeks ago I gave him a cheat, roasted fatty pig (lechon).

Cheat on your own terms, planned, not binge on a whim.

I only cheated today because I was meeting for lunch with my supervisor and I didn't want to eat my usual organ smoothie in front of her. Otherwise, I'm very strict. I was just wondering if other people have had similar cravings and if they think it's caused by pathogens.

General Discussion / Craving for Cooked Foods
« on: December 07, 2011, 06:29:24 am »
When I eat raw I feel stronger, I lose weight, and I build muscle without effort. However, I still have cravings for cooked foods. It seems that the die-off reactions from Candida overgrowth from years of antibiotics as a child and then a year for debilitating lyme disease are causing me to crave for indigestible foods that the yeast can thrive on.

I remember reading a book called Ten Days to Optimal Health by Kristina Amelong which recommends a raw animal foods diet and colon cleansing to return to good health, in which a Weston Price book reviewer describes her "noting the link of B6 deficiency with yeast overgrowth" and that raw meat and raw dairy are "rich in vitamin B6."

I don't drink dairy at this time, but I do believe that B6 in raw meat may play a role in possible die-off reactions and craving for cooked foods. Has anyone else found this to be the case?

Raw Weston Price / Make Your Own Liver Oil?
« on: December 02, 2011, 11:21:55 am »
Hello WAPFers,
I'm sure you'll all very aware of the benefits of Cod Liver Oil. I was wondering if anyone knows the traditional preparation method of Fermented Cod Liver Oil.

Also, could you substitute the cod's livers with another animal's liver and still receive the same benefits (i.e. Vitamin A and D)?

Thanks,
Zym.

General Discussion / Are Herbal Teas Paleo?
« on: November 27, 2011, 10:33:47 am »
What was used as medicine before the advent of cooking? Whole medicinal herbs? Or were they soaked in water?

Do steeped teas cause the same problem as cooked foods?

General Discussion / Re: Paleo Treatment for Ulcers

I should also point out that when I first became ill with Lyme Disease and co-infections, the right side of my body began developing pains and felt rather disconnected from the rest of my body. This may have something to do with the digestive/liver/rib cage pain that I am now experiencing on the right side of my body.
