Hot Topics / Re: Pemmican
« on: October 05, 2009, 02:13:40 pm »

couple questions,

ive never made Pemmican, or even know how to render fat for that matter, but i plan on making and using Pemmican as my main food source for about a six month expedition.

what is the best cut of meat to use?

what is the best fat to use?

can i cut in some Bone marrow in the process?

will dried berries facilitate spoilage?

i planned on buying some sort of foodsaver to package Pemmican in individual, airtight, serving size portions, seeing ill be living out of a backpack, i assume this will keep. i planned on preparing all the pemmican for the whole trip and storing it in my fathers freezer/fridge(?) and he will send a couple week supply to my 'current' locations. it will also be the dead of winter so i assume this will help keep the Pemmican from spoiling.

I order course ground "chili" meat (usually beef but on occasion bison or other red meat), Dog & Cat food (has ground mix of organs as well as muscle meat), and suet from Slankers.

My normal mix is 2 lbs of chili meat (one package), mixed with 1 1/2 lbs dog & cat food (one package), and add about 1/2 lb of ground suet to raise the fat content a bit.  I eat about 2 lbs of this mix every day as my only food and I eat it raw.  I have been doing this for several years now.  The dog & cat food is rather strong tasting and takes a bit of getting used too, but now plain muscle meat seems very bland and I prefer a bit of the D & C mixed in.

whats the consistency of the chili meat and D&C food?

do you think that the D&C is strong tasting just because of the organ meats added in?

In the media, white meat refers to fish  and fowl, with pork considered to be inbetween white meat and red meat.Yet, while I agree that intensively-farmed pork and fowl are indeed quite white in colour, I can't help noticing, though, that raw wild boar meat is dark red in colour as is the raw wild mallard duck I buy. Similiarly, farmed salmon has to have an artificial pink dye added to make it look like the more genuine pinkish colour that wildcaught salmon have.

how does wild boar meat taste?  where do you get it?

its called Predictive Programming: tell the people how to react to the scenes in the movie.
fake scare(fake-fake, or fake-real), hope the people riot, then force more restrictions.

FOX is the only word thats numerically 666.

someone should ask Obama why hes creating a Civil Disobedience Army(Mandatory Community Service), why is he preparing for people to riot in the streets?

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / Re: Glycogen on a raw carnivore diet
« on: January 18, 2009, 11:05:58 pm »

im very curious on the topic of exercise recovery on a very-lowcarb/zero-carb diet.
i usually partake in HIIT-type training that leaves you unbelievably exhausted after only a 20 min workout, most of the time laying on my back for 15min hardly able to get up. i dont think our ancestors would ever come to that sort of glycogen depletion, save a literal wrestle-for-your-life-with-a-Sabertooth-Tiger situation. i find certain muscles are sore for days, sometime a whole week even when supplementing with carbs. i cant imagine not replenishing with carbs. unless, like someone said, your body will soon adapt to using ketones, and then maybe soreness wouldnt be so severe.

soon ill try zero carb for a period of time, if possible.

maybe doing more of a longer rotation, like HIIT one day, then rest a couple of days, then light exercise like hiking, running for a two days, then one rest day, then HIIT.

Nah? I was only thinking of domestic dogs. They can out sprint me but over time/distance not a chance!

We are  persistence hunters for sure...hardly any hair, we can run/walk for hours on end, we sweat (so can run through the heat of the day)

most full size dogs could out-run the best marathon runner ever as long as the weather is cool(more like cold[even if the human ran in a confortable temp range), but if the weather is even remotely warm the human would win because of our sweat glands.
so unless you run a 3hour marathon in hot weather your dogmeat! :D

Info / News Items / Announcements / Re: The Truth About Ketons & Ketosis
« on: January 18, 2009, 08:58:45 pm »
Maybe because your body isn't hooked up to use the ketones because you're full of the enzymes for using carbs. I've been led to believe reading about ketone adaptation that you have to stop eating carbs for a while to entice your body into producing more of the ketone using enzymes, at which point you can take full advantage of that fuel supply but less so of carbs.

Kyle, have you spent any periods at almost zero carbs and been able to recover effectively from your MMA training?

I had a smidge of obsession recently with downloading music from my teenage years, which is mostly 90's alternative rock. My goal is to make a bunch of mix cd's from those memorably songs for parties.

But the last song I heard was some new Aimee Mann song on XPN radio (great radio station). I forget the name but it's new.

im with you Kyle, i find that love everything from the 90's, even if i hated it back then.

"Biochemically, ketones are the #1 preferred fuel of
the following organs: the skeletal muscles, the heart, and the liver"

why is it that i feel sore longer after exercise if i dont consume many carbs?

General Discussion / bacteria strains?
« on: January 11, 2009, 11:46:21 pm »

does anyone know the main types of bacteria present on raw meat, and their effect in the intestines?

i just ask because in conventional health Acidophilus is always talked about like its the main bacteria in the intestines and therefore most Probiotics are based on it. but ive been wondering for awhile about the bacterias found on meat.

General Discussion / Re: Not enough fat on grassfed beef?
« on: January 11, 2009, 11:40:21 pm »

I just started reading a book titled "Know Your Fats: The Complete Primer for Understanding the Nutrition of Fats, Oils, and Cholesterol" by Mary Enig, Ph.D. I'm only on chapter one, but it is a great read. She examines the fat in human diets in antiquity before heart disease, diabetes and cancer were a problem. She states "fat intake in healthy groups can vary from 10 perrcent of the calories (desert nomads) to 50 percent or more of the calories (e.g., Greenland Eskimos)."

have you read "Fats that Heal, Fats that Kill" ?
if so how does "Know Your Fats" compare?

General Discussion / Re: Anarcho-primitivism
« on: January 11, 2009, 11:24:23 pm »
has anyone else read about this. it's pretty neat in my opinion. not sure i agree with total anarchy, but they have some really cool ideas. basically they're saying that we should abolish all of civilization and revert back to a hunter-gatherer way of life. they are extremely anti-technology and anti-agriculture. they feel that the agricultural revolution created all the social ills of today (ie. gender issues, government, etc). i havent seen any mention of a raw-paleo diet, but they definitely promote the paleo diet. anyways, thought some of you might be interested. you can wiki it to learn more. also, here's a website for an anarcho-primitivist magazine:

http://www.greenanarchy.org/index.php?action=home

i used to be really into Anarcho-Primitivism, i have the Books, the Zines and even some shirts. but unfortunately now that i know the trajectory or humanity i would say Anarchy is the worst action, seeing "they" want it so bad that its the #1 subliminal they use.
This is why one of Obamas first agendas is to start a Mandatory "Community Service"(Civil Disobedience) for 18to25 year olds to police the riots. what riots? ask Obama why they are gearing up for riots across the country.

General Discussion / Slackers questions
« on: November 29, 2008, 03:16:41 am »

ok, never ordered from Slackers before.

i usually buy meat from Whole Foods and Organs from Northstar. but Slackers looks like the best option for a onestop shop.

i usually get Bison sirlioin from WF.
On Slackers theres a huge jump in price from stuff like Roasts and "Minute Steaks" to highend cuts like Sirlioin , so id rather go that route and get more. im just wondering if theres a big difference in prep, cuz Sirlion is pretty easy to chop up and eat, is the cheaper cuts worth it?

also is there a size difference between Soup Bones and Leg Bones, i assume Leg bones are whole and need to be cut?

also, the only fat i usually consume outside of whats on the meat, is bone marrow, but i was thinking of getting some Fat. whats the differences between "Bison Suet" and "Bison Fat".

and last but not least, whats a "must try" from the Slackers?

but i almost stopped it when it said: "The vegetarian diet is the religious worship of animals. They refuse to eat their 'god' ".
wow.
