Is there anybody here who is eating a zero carb diet while also doing regular intense anaerobic activities?

My wife has started Kung-Fu/Kickboxing a few nights a week and she is finding it pretty brutal as far as her energy levels go. While she did lots of Yoga and regular daily stuff like gardening general moving, and even weightlifting, she did not notice it or ever question her diet, but now she is thinking that a Zero carb diet is more of a healing/restorative diet, and if you want to do intense activity more than once or twice a week you may need to add some kind of carbohydrate source in.
I have also tried eating just meat/fat while working out 5 days a week and it really just was not working for me either.

Anybody here have any experience with zero carb and energy levels during anaerobic exercise?

Health / Sport Injuries
« on: October 06, 2011, 08:29:49 pm »
Recently my dog tore her anterior cruciate ligament (small ligament that holds your knee joint together).  I would much rather her heal this on her own, but from the looks of things ligaments are not something that want to heal without intervention.  This is also a pretty common sports injury and while im sitting here in my armchair, i can totally imagine paleo man having to deal with this.

So whats the deal? Good Samaritan(or anybody else with any idea), how would you go about healing a torn ACL?
I personally am just having her stay still and not move it and hope it heals on its own, because the interwebs doesn't seem to have too much info's on naturally healing this kind of injury.

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / Zero Carb and Menstruation
« on: April 14, 2011, 01:06:06 pm »
I have heard women mention that eating a zero carb diet stops their menstruation. My wife has noticed the same thing since starting zero carb a few years ago. Have any other zero carb women noticed anything similar?
And do you think it is still possible to get a yeast infection while being zero carb?
She noticed that she only ever got her period if she 'ate something weird' like we had to eat oats for a few weeks and she got her period about a week later after having not had it for about 6 months. Then again after eating more fruit than usual about 6 months later again.
Mabye its just a coincidence and she just has a weird bi-annual cycle or something.

General Discussion / What to eat when grassfed meat is not available?
« on: April 13, 2010, 02:53:03 am »
I have a question and was wondering what other people would do.
I am trying to get someone to eat a more paleo diet than they currently are. When people are used to eating grains the jump in the cost of food is a little stark.

Grassfed meat is pretty scarce around here, although available every so often.  What would you recomend somebody to eat?

Grainfinished local beef with no hormones/antibiotics is plentiful but I personally after eating grassfed do not think it is very good for you, but if thats all you have?

Are you going to be ok eating a local grainfed meat heavy diet with some local fruits/veggies?  I have never eaten grainfed meat for long periods of time and I was never a fan of it, but if you do not have tastes accoustomed to grassfed, will you fare better than on a grain-heavy diet? or will you have a terrible time relative since in a sense you are still eating grains?

This is a pretty rambled question but I dont know what to recomend to somebody else who is used to budgeting (mother/daugher) a weeks groceries under $50.  In the end i think meat is the best bang for your buck, but then again i dont know what it would be like eating grainfed fats for your fats?  They want to eat better, but how does someone afford it(or when grassfed is just not available)?

Health / How long did it take you to repair yourself?
« on: January 26, 2010, 02:07:33 am »
I imagine most people here, are here because they had some form of health problems. I read tylers testimonial thing and a lot of it coincided with what my wife was going through re. adrenal burnout/thyroid problems.  She has been eating a pretty much raw zero carb diet for about 10 months now and while things are miles above what they were she still has a lot of problems.  Low energy is still pretty common even though she has way more energy than before, Dizzyness and lightheadedness is another common problem, like at least a few dizzy spells every day. I imagine it has something to do with blood pressure.  Those are the two major things that we are wondering about and if anybody has had these symptoms (if you have thyroid/adrenal issues im sure you have) and if/how long it took eating raw for these symptoms go to away.

We have used a lot of different suppliments but pretty much the only things we are using right now is Dr. Rons adrenals/thyroid and ive got her to take betaine HCL with her meals to help burn up her food better since she has always had digestive problems that we have tried all kinds of stuff to help but havent found much worked.

TL:DR; How long did it take eating RAF to heal your body and any ideas on something that we might not be doing that we could?

General Discussion / Leaving Meat Out...
« on: December 27, 2009, 11:55:31 pm »
Hey guys.
When i purchase my meat i usually buy 10-15 lb. chunks but since i dont like cold meat and live without refrigeration for most of the year anyway ive just gotten used to whacking the chunk of meat down on a cutting board (although i think sticking it on a hook from the roof would be better) and over the week i just slice off what i want. So usually by day 5-6 its getting kinda fuzzy/mouldy but you can just scrape it off (or eat it too) and i suppose high meat isnt really necessary for us (i found it too much work trying to do it in jars that i have to remember to air out)

I laugh because when i started this diet that would have been gross, but now my wife and I laugh because we dont even notice the 'high' smell, but we also PREFER the meat aged like this now haha. I pull out a chunk early now so that we dont have to eat the 'flavourless' fresh meat. haha

I was just wondering if anyone else just let their meat 'rot' on their bench all week haha.

Another thing i noticed is those fruit fly things also like meat haha.

General Discussion / Parasite in my fish flesh
« on: November 14, 2009, 05:57:30 am »
I have a piece of fish here (pacific snapper) that has an obvious worm like parasite curled up in its flesh.
I think that its ok to just eat around it and ive already had some but mabye this worm will eat its way through my stomach and crawl through my spine sucking my vital spine-juice all the way up to my brain where it makes a nest and a family of little worms will eat my brains slowly over the course of a few weeks.. OH GOD!!! TELL ME IM GOING TO SURVIVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Omnivorous Raw Paleo Diet / fermenting fruit?
« on: October 22, 2009, 10:05:49 am »
Is it possible to ferment fruit by crushing it up and putting it in a jar and leaving it to rot for a few weeks? I imagine this would make paleo alcohol? haha

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / Eating Roadkill...
« on: October 07, 2009, 07:59:59 am »
I was wondering if anybody here eats roadkill and if you eat it raw?
I know that there should be no 'super scary parasites' in meat you purchase but what about eating a fresh (or not so fresh) roadkilled racoon or bear?
