Raw coconut
« on: October 03, 2013, 04:51:21 am »
I've been reading about the benefits of coconut oil for schizophrenia. Specifically I've been seeing that the fats with their microbe killing properties are very helpful since a contributing factor in schizophrenia can be microbial.

I bought a coconut, cracked it open, and tried eating some of the coconut meat. But it's difficult. Anyone have any tools they recommend for scooping out the meat? Or a company that offers raw coconut meat at a decent price? I'm also interested in hearing about centrifuged coconut oil/ any type of coconut oil you think is high quality.

Thanks in advance.
Disclaimer: I was told I was misdiagnosed over 10 years ago, and I haven't taken any medication in over a decade.

If you live outside the tropics, most commonly youll find "old" coconuts with white thick flesh.
To scoop it and separate it from the woody part, try use an oyster knife or anything similar.

Young coconut flesh is much better IMO. The meat is jelly and tastes like yolks! heh

We make raw coconut oil on the farm.

The best oil I have found by far is First Qaulity,,   877 870 1018.   try the one that has only been centrifuged one time.     A meat cleaver with the blunt end used around the coconuts middle does a fine job of cracking, Over a bowl if you want the water (although it does go off quickly and can cause gas etc. for some )  I like mature coconut, I also at times add extra oil to it.  I most often will chew on finely shredded coconut to get the juice or oil out and spit out the dry fibrous extras.

the best coconut product would be coconut cream you made yourself with a Green Star juicer, for example.

Homemade coconut cream can only be as good as the coconut. When sourcing fresh coconuts is a problem due to preservatives, shipping distances, and warehousing spoilage, I'd go with the product you can buy from a reputable source.

This lady claims all her coconut products are RAW and if you read her story she talks about following advice from Aajonus.

Have not yet tried her products though...

Raw extra virgin artisana coconut oil is the best I have tasted.

this type of spatula works well for taking the meat from the shell.

Then you take a potato peeler to scrap the rest of the husk off.
