The point being that large brain-size is not that important and that brain-size to body ratio/encephalisation quotient is far more important. I also read somewhere that birds' have more highly concentrated numbers of neurons etc. in certain parts of their brains compared to chimps etc.
Anyway, this is relevant since our palaeolithic ancestors had 11% larger brain-sizes than us. Whether diet had anything to do with this is, of course, not certain.

Also IIRC larger animals have larger cell sizes, so just having a larger brain doesn't necessarily mean more neurons.
