Action Alert: Support Bill C-291 for Labelling GM Foods

Issued: , March 6, 2017

It’s time, Canada! Private Members Bill C-291 to establish mandatory labelling of genetically modified (GM) foods will be debated in Parliament this week! Send an instant letter to your Member of Parliament from CBAN's website today! www.cban.ca/labelling (http://www.cban.ca/labelling)

The first hour of debate on Bill C-291 is scheduled for Friday March 10 in the House of Commons. A second debate with a vote on the bill will be held a few weeks later. Send your letter to support the bill today, and check out CBAN’s website for tools to take more action.

Labelling? Who wants it? 88% of Canadians say they want mandatory labelling of genetically modified foods (also called GM foods or genetically engineered foods). For twenty years, polls in Canada have show that over 80% of Canadians want labelling.  www.cban.ca/labelling (http://www.cban.ca/labelling)

Sent it to a couple of canadian friends, I hope they pass it

In a more sane world, this wouldn't be necessary, because consumers would demand it from producers, stores and vendors. It costs very little to label them, and for a lot of people it makes a difference.

Rather than more laws, I'd prefer to see producers of non-GMO products label them as such, and in that way possibly gain a slightly better market share over their competitors who either sell GMO products, or haven't thought of labeling their non-GMO items for extra sales.
