Title: Top 10 foods by digestion speed
Post by: majormark on February 15, 2010, 01:25:07 am

Let's compose a list of foods we know in order of their digestion speed in general.

So far I know that:
- raw meat digests faster than cooked meat
- carbs can digest faster depending on the fiber content, the type of the fiber and how well they are chewed
- spices (like mustard) can speed up digestion
- the water content of a food can help it digest faster

So, with that in mind, which would be the top 10 foods in your opinion?

Carbs do not digest fast for me.  Using your style I'll try to make a list of mine:

Green juice
High meats
Raw Eggs
Unheated honey
Raw butter
Raw meat
Raw dairies (with exception of specified)
Energy soup
Nut "cheese"
Raw cheese
Blended salad
Carbs
Nuts
Green smoothies
Cooked carbs

The top of the list digests fastest.  The bottom of the list slowest.  Not sure really, I think green smoothies don't digest, but cooked carbs do a little, in me.

For me, cooked animal foods digest the slowest, with them being poorly absorbed. "High-meat"(aka aged raw meat) digests the fastest with the highest absorption of nutrients. I also find that spices speed up digestion but they do so at the expensce of full proper absoprtion of nutrients, IMO.

About fibers, I understand there are two types, soluble and insoluble, and that the insoluble ones digest faster. Or maybe pass through will be a more appropriate term.

AFAIK the hard raw cheese digests very long - about 5-6 hours. Previously soaked nuts digest in about 3 hours.
