Title: What should i tell a butcher to get suet?
Post by: Nation on March 02, 2010, 03:50:59 am
I asked for suet and he asked me what it was for, I said cuts of meat are too lean to my liking so i want more fat. I guess that was the wrong answer to give because he wouldn't sell me any.

What should i say next time? Is it difficult to get suet?

Say you're making homemade soaps and candles for Christmas.

Say it's for the birds. People actually do hang suet for birds here in Canada in the winter.

It can be difficult - when I lived in North Battleford, all butchers in that city refused to sell me suet for food - I wasn't smart enough to lie. I think that they are all trained, and would love to know what they are told.

Some made up reason might work the first time. But when you go back for kilos and kilos each week or month...

i just tell them i make pemmican with it. they didn't know what pemmican was the first time, but once i explained it they seemed satisfied and somewhat interested. i told them i take it on camping trips (which isn't really a lie). anyways, they give me pounds of it for free now!
