Title: Live Small Squid
Post by: goodsamaritan on May 09, 2010, 08:18:45 am
Had live small squid for lunch yesterday.
How to prepare:
Wash with water. Get a dipping bowl for real natural vinegar. Dip squid a few seconds just to "clean" it due to handling in the market. Eat. Show your nice black tongue. My 5 year old girl found this delicious with me.
How to tell if a squid is still alive: It's skin color keeps changing / rippling.

I don't think I'll try that. I mean popping a wriggling, live animal into my mouth is a bit too odd for me. The live oysters and live mussels I eat don't wriggle, thank god.

These squid were too weak to wiggle. It is octopus who wiggle.

Still, it's a bit cruel to eat them alive, like that. I don't mind eating live oysters or mussels as they are so non-sentient that it's like eating bacteria or whatever, but live raw squid are quite bright(well, at least octopi have been shown to be very intelligent creatures among wild sea-life). I do think they should be (humanely and quickly) killed first.

Those are cute! I think biting them will kill them pretty quickly.

Cool! I would swallow them whole so they can take a wild roller coaster ride into my tummy. Least I gave them a good 'childhood' experience. -d
