Title: Giving up bread, difficult, ?
Post by: ster546464@yahoo.co.uk on June 08, 2010, 08:56:32 pm
I read grains activate morphine receptors in the brain, which may explain their addictiveness

Did anyone else find it difficult to give up bread ?

When I wanted to lose weight the first thing my nutritionist told me was to ditch bread.
2 slices of white bread = 1 cup of white rice.
Rice is more filling.
Ditch the bread.

Then I ditched the rice.

I have no addictions to bread as such. This sounds really stupid but, sometimes, when I haven't enacted a particular important goal(re not doing some expected exercise in the summer or whatever) I sometimes eat a little pastry(eg:- a croissant) in order to "punish" myself. The subsequent trips to the toilet afterwards make more focused re certain goals.

it's really difficult for me to give up eating rice. i'm from a country where the staple food is rice and people eat three times a day. it's very hard for me in the beginning, but after six months of raw paleo, i completely give up this rice. i feel good about that now. i hope you do that too for your better health.

I would give up bread easily if I had something to replace it, which I don't at the time.

Temporarily replacing most grain meals with tubers (potatoes) seems to work better for me than with grains.

What are you talking about?

There's plenty of fruit and raw meat everywhere.

I think there's something in what you say.
For instance I haven't had bread in a while, but this morning I went to get a paper and for some reason ended up buying some belgian buns (doughy bread covered in icing sugar).  I didn't really enjoy eating them and felt guilty afterwards.  This pattern has the hallmark of addiction. I do find that I crave bread.

Fruit doesn't do much and it's mostly raw fat that's needed as a replacement for energy etc.

Good quality meat with high fat is harder to obtain. I finally ordered a normal-sized supply, reinforcements should arrive in a week.

No, breads and carbohydrates are gross.  I just frankly look at my flat abs and eat a ribeye.  ???
