Title: Nuts vs Seeds ?
Post by: NEUROSPORT on June 21, 2010, 07:41:14 pm
I find that on the average nuts taste better to me than seeds, except Hemp Seeds which i love.
But anyway, which is healthier ? Can a generalization be made ?
at Whole Foods Hemp Seeds are $12 / pound. most nuts at whole foods are $10 / pound which is almost as much. if Hemp Seeds really are that much healthier it would appear that i should be mega-dosing them ? Or is there such a thing as too much Omega-3 ?

check out pumpkin, sunflower, and sesame seeds. They should be much less than the nuts or the hemp seeds.
I believe U.S. almonds are mostly pasteurized nowadays.

I think the hemp seeds sold in stores are required to be steamed before delivering to any store.
Have you sprouted nuts? I definitely find raw un-sprouted nuts and seeds constipating and throws off my liver's ability to stop my skin from turning yellowish or orangey and make ear wax and yellow oil on me, unless it's AV nut formula. Funny, Vitamin A rich foods (raw) that I've eaten never did the yellow thing, only nuts, seeds, grains, legumes and sprouts.
A lot of people feel better with seeds than nuts. I don't think it matters what plant it comes from. Whatever you can get fresh and not rancid should be good.
Certain things will make a body require more Omega 3. What escapes me at the moment. I'm sure other people on forum know. Doing things more paleo may get you to require less or maybe even no Omega 3. Pardon me my family is directly demanding my attention right now. I hope you find your answers.

Seeds don't really seem like human food and usually seeds have more anti nutrient type substances then nuts(I think?).

Maybe try out some wild nuts or seeds. Many contain toxins. Many that were eaten in high amounts in human history were cooked. The cooked ones likely contain much starch and were bitter raw. Ones with mainly fat are probably the best since they are most edible raw. Here in Wisconsin there are Wild black walnuts.
