Title: Initiating raw paleo diet from cooked paleo diet
Post by: butters on July 15, 2010, 05:52:15 pm
Are there any problems I should be expecting? I've tried this twice already and both times by the second day i felt really really irritable and tired.

If you are doing fish sashimi and you are used to it, then go ahead and do that.

If you are doing land animals raw and not used to eat, you can gradually move from medium to rare to seared in a couple of days so as not to shock yourself.  I believe Tyler posted a guide for newbies.

So your saying that by going straight from cooked to non cooked this will give me problems? But if i slowly initiate the diet by dropping the temp of my food then I will not experience any issues?

I was raw paleo with just raw eggs and raw fish for the first 3 months because I had eaten those items in my SAD days.  So there was no yuck factor.

That's what I did with land animal meat.
There is a psychological barrier to overcome.

My kids and I were counting seconds every time we heated the steaks.
It progressively lowered from 30 seconds down to 5 seconds and then I just did away with the heating altogether.
Must have taken me some 2 to 3 weeks.

Enjoying raw land animals at room temperature fully adjusted after a month.

Enjoying raw land animal at refrigerator temperature took me more than 6 months.

It's more acculturation that the slow cooked to raw transition helps with. If you're mentally up for a cold turkey transition there should not be any physical issues (other than possibly a bit of diarrhea; more and more beginners have been commenting on this during early transition) .
