i took a day trip out to some land that my parents own out in the texas hill country (15 acres). i found out that most of the trees there are actually texas persimmons. ha, we've nearly got an orchard! they are much different than regular persimmons. small black fruits (about 3 cm in diameter). but the taste is similar. i found out the hard way that if the fruit is not really ripe and mushy, it's acts as a laxative... also collected some native prickly pears but haven't gotten around to cutting them up. kind of a pain with all the thorns. anyways, thought it was cool. i didn't know there was so much wild fruit here in the fall.

yep! really good. big seeds though. i just kinda suck out the juices and spit the skin and seeds out.
