Title: Does meat ever taste like beer?
Post by: bharminder on November 15, 2010, 11:24:17 pm
I ate some lamb this morning and I swear it had a taste of beer to it. Was this some kind of fermentation process or just my imagination?

Anybody have any experiences like this and/or any explanations about why I tasted this in the meat?

I think so...
Sometimes I leave my beef on a plate in my room for up to 2 days before I eat it (and its already been getting higher in the fridge for a week), the top dries, the middle preserves and the bottom wet part ferments, and at times its a slightly sour/beer-like flavor. It may be some fermentation process.
I find lamb gets even more beer-like if you let rot a bit.

Another theory is if the lamb ate some grains and it fermented then its meat may be flavored by the fermented grain taste, mmmm, beer lamb :P
However the beef I get is both grass fed and finished, and it still ferments to a beer-like taste so who knows. All I know is I love beer so I don't mind a bit of that taste.

EDIT: sometimes I enjoy the aged meat with beer, no this is totally not paleo but I do drink beer sometimes, and the 2 tastes really compliment each other. I have had no issues so far eating raw aged meat while drinking a good beer.

LOL i have to keep it in my room also! My mom got PISSED when she smelt some meat I planned on eating.
It sat out for about 2-3 days before I ate it. (I love it)

.

If you dice it up and mix with a little unheated honey, leave it for three days... It ferments wonderfully
 ;D

Old beef smells like sour milk to me. Grainfed chicken like corn. People who eat a lot of rice smell like beer to me, ones that don't drink any alcohol.  people who eat a lot of Veges smell like mangroves to me.  I don't know about lamb. It probably ate barley and hops.

LOL the rice eaters are fermenting! Feed them honey, maybe they will piss out some mead!

I wonder if or what we smell like to vegetarians?... just something to ponder. I smelt bad while raw vegetarian. but now I might go two or three days without a shower and still smell fine, or so I think  -\
Soaking myself in city water just seems silly at this point.

Well, the only thing I can think of is that kobe beef is from cattle fed on grains and lots of beer. Otherwise I can't see how meat can taste like beer.

I think it depends on our individual chemistry even at the time, and who's smelling for us.  When vegetarians have smelled me, they generally think I smell good, and even ask me what shampoo I use and want to follow my diet, if they don't know what I eat and suspect I'm vegetarian.

Good question though.  I think I've only met one raw paleo person in person, well actually two.  I was already eating RAF.  I don't remember any distinct or bad smell.

I definitely smell more pungent after drinking things like cilantro or ginger juices.
I think I smell a little salty after eating cheese.
I have gone two or three days without showering lately. I would have smelt horrible a year ago but now I think I smell fine maybe even pretty good. I was doing an experiment of how long I could go without needing shower, showered monday and thursday this week. A wonderful young lady came to me yesterday and asked for my number, on day three and a half. Of course the only regular exercise I get is from walking and working with children.

Who needs to coat themselves in fluoride chlorine mystery water anyway? ;)
If I can manage washing twice a week or as needed, I am going to do that.

How many have reached the same or similar conclusion?...
how many think that I sound like a disgusting abhorrence of god for not systematically washing?
That is what the traditional part of my brain tells me LOL It seems like a big deal, but so did eating a pound or two of beef every day.
