Title: Sprint fitness/interval etc inside
Post by: Josh on November 27, 2010, 02:20:54 am
Now summers gone I can't go to the park and sprint, so wondering if anyone has ideas for what I can use for sprint (all out sprint, then full rest) and also Tabata training in my house.
It would be good if it didn't work the muscles too hard, like say press ups, as I'm lifting weights as well.

How come you can't go to the park and sprint? Because the ground is wet and you'd make a mess of the grass?
Are you looking for an answer like skipping?

I don't like running outside when its this cold and wet. Is skipping good?

do barbell complex or you can add high rep sets in your workout.

I'm surprised SD didn't comment on here...
pick any one of his workouts on the 'Today's Workout' thread... ;D
in addition to that if you are doing weighted exercises on certain days you can either work these into a routine, or work them more intensely as in a tabata like you say on other days:
box jumps (basically jumping on a box or platform), jumping rope, air-squats or hindu squats. If you have a small interior space you can circle it and do lunges, Samson stretches, high knees running etc...or in place if you have to.
I would do these kind of things regularly even if I had a nice sandy beach to run on...
oh and rowing and running up stairs (possibly with weights)

You beat me to it, KD!
Yep - box jumps, running stairs, single/double/triple stair sprints, shadow boxing...even static job if you raise your knees high enough!

Thanks guys. One question. What do you use for your box jumps? Guy in a video was using about 8 aerobics steps but I don't really want to buy them if I can help it.

A variety of tings, but inside, primarily stairs.

we use constructed boxes at my gym, sort of like the base of a 4 sided pyramid. I'm sure you could use virtually anything as long as it supports weight.
plates would be a perfect option, we use these to add height to the existing boxes. you can always find probably something around that is part of the building or whatever. Sully was hopping on the back of a truck! I wouldn't shoot for more than two feet to start.
