Title: Cow's head
Post by: Hannibal on December 03, 2010, 05:02:49 pm
That's how it look's like.
I ate the brain, eyes and some muscle-meats and fat that were inside it.

The smell is really pleasant - meadow one.  :)

Oh, God!  :o :o

Didn’t you come across one of your neighbors while carrying that head in the steps or in the lift to your apartment?  You seem to really enjoy your meal, anyway!

The head was packed in the paper bag and plastic one and then packed in my large backpack (Karrimor Cougar).
There were also 5 kg of suet , 2,5 kg of liver, 2 kidneys with fat and the spleen in that rucksack. :)

Congratulations on your catch.
You must be very good at butchering by now.

My wife and kids just ate cooked beef tongue this dinner.

Brain is super good.
I haven't had much luck buying beef brain.
I have to be at the market before 6am to get any beef brain.

That's a good looking cow with two horns on it. I'm sure this cow is a superb cow than any other cows in US. Enjoy!

It's quite cheap, but difficult and very seldomly to get. About 8$.
I got it from my friend Abdul who has got a natural farm.

Amazing, that looks like a very nice head there!

Reminds me of the deer head I did up a couple months ago. A bit of an intimidating task before hand but I learned a lot and the organs were worth it. :)

Is that a small edged knife you used to get the eyeball out? Extracting the eyes was the hardest part for me and took quite a while. A word to the wise; grapefruit spoons are not useful in this situation and should not be attempted. ;D

The brain is really quite firm on a steer. The deer brain was quite a bit mushier, more akin to a thick pudding.

I used that small knife and also the bigger one (and sharper).
It's true that extracting the eyeballs is quite hard. It took me several minutes per one.
I think that scalpel would be an ideal tool to do it.  ;D

Cutting the parts of muscle-meats in the head

just couple of minutes ago
No edible parts has been left now, so the head will go to a garbage can. ;)
