Title: How many women?
Post by: Hannah on December 12, 2010, 05:30:39 am
I know that I have seen a few women on here but I'm wondering how many there actually are. I know our society would accept a man chowing down a leg of lamb raw but I'm wondering how society looks upon a woman? Not that I particularly care what others think, just wondering what your experience is.
It really is somewhat natural to me for a number of reasons. I grew up in a Scottish family that ate all kinds of organ meats (Haggis). Then I quit college to become a birth doula. I taught women how to let go of societal constraints and birth their babies the primal way and to get in touch with thier animal side. Then I had both of my babies naturally, one at home, one in water and felt like a lioness. I carried them strapped to me (and still do) the way our ancestors did. Well, when they weren't sleeping or snuggling with their sheepskins. So when a friend told me about getting healthy eating Paleo I was giddy. What could be more natural?
So how did you come to being Paleo as a woman?

I'm not a woman but if I saw a women eating a raw leg of lamb, I would think its pretty sexy.

Forum stats show a 1:1 ratio of male to female members. I'm surprised that the ratio isn't lower as women are more usually interested in health.

Women seem to be less obsessive about things in general.

I got into paleo because I have been trying many diets, not to loose weight or anything but I always loved to experiment with different foods and how they made me feel. Paleo and especially raw paleo has made me feel the best so far out of all the other diets I tried, especially the good digestion. Another reason is when I eat paleo my skin is very clear and the second I try any grains and sugars my skin gets pimples! I also have always really loved meat and especially seafood so it goes hand in hand.
I had a squid day today! Bought lots of squid and ate it different ways, first meal (lunch) I had it raw (delicious!), the second meal (dinner) I lightly seared it in heaps of butter with garlic, paprika, lemon and jalapeƱo (my whole family enjoyed the latter dish) ;D
I will eat raw meat in front of anybody, some people get surprised but then again they know I am a weird gal so its to be expected. There are many raw meat (or almost raw meat) dishes you can order in restaurants so I just explain that and they nod in understanding. If they worry about me getting parasites I just ask them the last time they remember me being sick and they don't say anything. Actually I got food poisoning a few times but it was always from cooked restaurant fare, no surprise there.

@Alan you say you live in the San Diego? What would you a RZCer who prefers cooked grainfed and uses pasteurized Kerigold as his/her fat, hasn't used more than one or two capital letters since September third know about chix and vegan meetups? Just had to ask. I don't know about the women at the meetups, but I went to mostly vegan meetup and met a guy with serious issues. BTW, there are many healthfood strore in SD that sell cultured (less carbs than noncultured) raw organic butter: http://www.organicpastures.com/cgi-bin/FindStores.pl?zip2=92113 (http://www.organicpastures.com/cgi-bin/FindStores.pl?zip2=92113).

I wish I had one store or farm in a hundred miles to get it.
I know we're all at our own pace, but I'm wondering if you are raw or paleo in the coming future, so that people know what they're reading. Thank you for defending our country and factory farms too, I know their owners are Americans too. I wonder how many of them we can get to try a raw food.

I am actually surprised that the percentage of women here is so high. From the discussions here, I got an impression that the forum is mostly composed of college-age males. 8)
