Title: A warning about vegetarian digestive enzyme supplements
Post by: CHK91 on February 13, 2011, 10:58:25 am
After I eliminated all the problem allergenic foods, my inflammation symptoms had mostly disappeared. However, I still seemed to have some minor irritation around where my rashes used to be. Initially, I ignored it thinking it would go away as I recovered. About three days ago rashes flared for the first time in weeks. It happened again the next day. First I was confused, then I felt really retarded because I realized that what I had done different was I had increased the dosage of my digestive enzyme supplement, and it was at fault.
Vegetarian enzymes formulations are usually derived from fungi. I am recovering from a systemic yeast infection, and I probably have a ton of antibodies to fungi. For some stupid reason they still list these supplements as yeast-free -__-. I'm glad I increased the dose, so I could finally figure out that this supplement was harming me. I cannot believe that I didn't make this connection earlier, ARGH.
If you ever had systemic yeast infection, take vegetarian digestive enzymes, and think you are allergic to some sort of meat (I thought I was for a little while), try changing digestive enzymes to one that does not have fungal enzymes in it.
Alternatives: Papain, Bromelain, Pancreatin(animal), Betaine HCL, Ox bile
