Title: Slankers Pork
Post by: Coatue on February 13, 2011, 01:45:51 pm
Anybody get slankers pastured pork? From what the site says no grains of any kind are used? Should I be concerned about trichinosis?  Also, is wild boar bacon that has been frozen for 3 months good to eat raw or useless in nutritional value?

It's by no means useless in nutritional value. But it's not as nutritious as raw and not as regenerative.

I have been planning on trying their pork. It looks like the hogs are out in the woods in natural conditions. Trich is only a problem for penned up animals. Freezing for a couple of months will kill any trich that does exist.

Never have eaten raw pork. Anyone have any experience?

Has anyone ever found a no grain or soybean poultry source??

These are difficult to find.  The farmers at the local market boast "hormone free pork" and "free range chickens" but they both always are fed grains.  I think if you want grain-free poultry you have to raise it yourself.  Or hunt it.  Same with pork (except for Slankers').
