I've heard so many horror stories re hormone-replacement. What is certain is that high doses of hormones are inherently detrimental to the body - not only are these artificial hormones, so are poorly absorbed by the human body by comparison, but also the human body always lowers the production of its own equivalent hormone once it senses that there's already some artificial hormones present in the body.
I believe that Ray Peat recommends a precursor hormone, pregnenolone(?), which is the pre-hormone used by the body to turn into testosterone and similiar sex-hormones, I think it's recommended as it can eb sued by the body to make natural hormones, so it may be a better option - on the other hand, a Dr Sahelian has stated that pregnenolone is very harmful except in very tiny doses.
In short, if one has a particular hormone-producing gland that is permanently harmed, then hormone-replacement is better than nothing, but, IMO, otherwise, it's best to just buy the raw gland in question from grassfed animals.

Have you looked into Maca? Many have used it as an alternative to HRT with great results.

i have tried maca with little success, in fact i have spent thousands of dollars on herbal, vitamin, mineral supplements with little success.
i believe i should take advantage of available technology and use the medicines my doctor has recommended.

Hey guys, this is my first post but no pic..but I've been on this site for a while and it is awesome.
I have been on HRT since a bout with testicular cancer..I take 100mgs of Testosterone subcutaneously a week..have been for 3 years. All of mens cells are "energized" by testosterone..low levels are extremely debillitating. You just want to sleep..all day.
I have done the patch and the Androgel..way to weak for me as my testosterone levels were still low and estrogen high...so shots are a must.
Side effects?? Well my hair is falling out..still have alot at 45years of age, but it does hasten those predisposed to MPB..but have you seen the head of hair on Lou Ferrigno??
Polycythemia..my red blood cells tend to clump and my hematocrit is high..so I must do theraputic phlebotomies every 2 weeks at the blood bank..pain in the arse.
Sleep Apnea..had it before my illness ,but testosterone excaserbates it. So I wear a Cpap machine everynight while I sleep.
Natural supplements?? I am in the supplement business and believe me, I know them all and have tried them all. The only thing that helps me personally is Tribulus. Tribulus stimualtes LH which in turn stimulates the testicles to produce more testosterone..horny goat weed, smilax, avena sativa,maca..nil.
I recently found out that I am insulin resistant as well..though I fully embrace the philosophy of a all meat, paleo type of diet, I am having the hardest time avoiding carbs..once I start them, I can't stop.
I know what I need to do, but cannot..and the worst part?? I train people and help them with their diets..
Hypocrite eh??
Well that is my 2 cents on HRT..for some very necessary, others disasturous.
Here's a little gem..the statin drug craze..Liptior, Crestor etc.. I have a naturopathic physician friend who practices in a retirement area here in Az. He has many patients who come to him for their libido problems, both men and women. They say their former doctors now want to put them on HRt.
He asks them if they are taking statins ..most say yes.
He takes them off their drugs and immediately increases their cholesterol intake.
Why? Well as all you knowledgeable people here on this blog know, cholesterol is a precursor for just about all hormones..including the sex hormones. So if your levels are low, you have no raw material to produce testosterone or estrogen.
So another great example of why this diet is best for health..and libido
Thanks for listening to the rant..look forward to hanging with you all.
