Title: Colostrum
Post by: RogueFarmer on October 02, 2011, 06:45:23 am
Realized that there is no thread on this super food!
I am no expert on the subject, but I find it hard to believe that there is any food that has more to offer than colostrum.
The shit is loaded with what is almost exactly human growth hormone. Supposedly drinking it will allow us to regrow a thymus gland, even if we don't have one anymore.
I had a goat kid and after a day, they had only drank out of one tit. The mother looked really uncomfortable so I drained one quarter into a pail. I was taking it back to the house to freeze it for later goat use, but then I decided to take a sip. A sip turned into a swallow. At first it tasted nasty, but then it tasted really good! Before I knew what I was doing I had an empty pail!
I have a feeling that people who are having troubles they can't overcome with raw paleo or raw primal would benefit from getting their hands on some of this goodness!
Wonders for the immune system I hear too.

Do you freeze milk products regularly?

Freezing colostrum is a good idea however because if a mother animal is sick or dies after kidding, you can save the kids if you have some frozen colostrum to warm up and feed them.
Although I do happen to have a freezer full of raw butter! Is that a problem? Special spring butter!

aajonus has shown that freezing butter depletes some of it's nutrients. Spring butter is nice.
