Title: persistent cough
Post by: svrn on February 21, 2012, 12:38:04 pm
I've had a cough for about a month now that just won't go away. It's worse in the morning and at night. What should I do?

Have you ever tried nebulizing with just salt in water?

Checked your car and home and work where you live and sleep?

For fungus? Fragrances? Chemicals? Your laundry?

are you in the same place morning and night, and somewhere different during the day?

Yes. I did cough at work similarly today though as well due to my boss smoking many cigarettes.

what is this nebulizing? How do I get my air checked at home?

Ask your boss to go and smoke outside because cigarette smoke makes you cough! It may take quite a long time (about the same duration as you have been breathed it) for you to stop coughing after stopping the inhalation of cigarette smoke, because these pollutants accumulate in the body.

Get an air ionizer. You can find them around $ 30. on ebay or get one at a hardware store. Don't get one with an air filter as it is completely unnecessary and counterproductive as you will have to replace the filter.

It will take any crap out of the air quickly and give you a bit of an energy boost.

Also check the air filter if you have a forced air furnace. That is what was suspected as the source of Legionairs disease.

Another one that works really well but you may have a bit of trouble with finding the ingredients is to get one of those tea light diffusers

I am not advertising these models they were the first ones on a Google search. You can get them in any town.

However the critical part is to put 6 drops of this :

Other aromas make work but they may aggravate it also. I know this one works for sure.

In about a 1/2 to one cup of water in the diffuser. Light the candle or turn on the electricity if you have an electric diffuser or if you want low tech and easy just put a pot on a stove with a cup or two of water (amount doesn't matter at all) then put the drops of oil in. It will diffuse the aroma into the air and your coughing will stop.

I used to use it when we lived in a very dry place (!5% RH) for my daughters when they would cough. Took less than 5 minutes and the coughing stopped completely.
