Title: Galloway/Highlander for Beef ... but which race for Lamb?
Post by: zaidi on February 23, 2012, 05:23:33 pm: Galloway or Highland race usually eat only grass and no grains. Therefore, it becomes easy to find out the 100% pastured Beef in my country.

My question is, are there such Races for lamb/sheep too which only eat grass?

As far as I know most sheep breeds can thrive very well without grains or other concentrated fodder. But I have heard that some of them can get problems in very low temperatures.

Unfortunately nearly all lamb in Germany is grain fed during winter times. Look for traditional "Wanderschäfer". Some of them still have survived, in Baden-Württemberg for example..
