Title: motivations for going raw paleo: acute health crisis vs. generalized wellbeing

I'm interested in knowing how many people here got into raw paleo in spite of the fact that they had no major underlying health issues that they were trying to resolve.

I did. I felt completely healthy and started with fringe diets for advanced health/well being and political/moral/environmental reasons. I think it's more difficult because you don't have the fear of serious disease pushing you that you would if you were recovering from cancer, heart disease etc. Actually cooked food makes me much more ill now than before when I was on the SAD diet, so maybe if I tried to go back my body would tell me nuh uh in no uncertain terms (with a serious disease).

I had gone through many dietary changes... evolution... try what works... I used to be sick too and it was partially addressed by detox methods... not through diet... Then I was looking for a sustainable way of living that would free me from herbs, supplements, vitamins, etc. I tried raw vegan... unsustainable and tastes bad. I tried raw fruitarian... taste good smelled good... but I was getting too thin and too cold and I live in a tropical country. So I switched to Wai Diet (already raw paleo) by adding eggs and fish to my fruits. Then I got bored with just fish and got curious with raw land animals and experimented. So I'm expanding my menu for variety.
So my health broke down in 2005 and I have been in search of the perfect diet (for me) and raw paleo works.

I did have underlying health issues, but I got into RAF because it is high in (raw undamaged) cholesterol. I didn't know whether it would help my health, but I know enough about science that I knew it wouldn't hurt me. I was trying to prove that point. It worked. My health has not only not suffered, but I am healthier and stronger for it.
