Title: Mini fridge for my room
Post by: LePatron7 on January 03, 2013, 10:46:10 am
Hey everyone. While my dad has permitted raw meat again, and I thought there would be no problems... Well my dad typically makes problems, so I should have assumed it was "too easy."

He set a "one jar limit" in the fridge. I'm only allowed to have ONE food item in the fridge at a time.

So, I'm getting a mini fridge for my room.

I'm looking for one that hopefully uses minimal electricity. That can accommodate a few jars of frozen beef fat, and bags of frozen organs and fish. And a fridge compartment that can accommodate multiple jars, as I plan to eat 1.5 lbs of meat per day, plus 1 oz suet per meal.

Any tips, personal experience you guys have with some would be great. Thanks.

I used to have a mini-fridge in my office. (Different office now, my company has a fridge that I use.) I got mine at Walmart for very little $$$, and it was economical to run. Small refrigerators come in "very small" cube-shapes ones as well as the rectangular upright "little old lady" size but most of these have very small freezing compartments mostly for ice cubes only. Their capacity is 3 or 4 cu. ft.

The next size category has both freezer and refrigerator compartments. The one I own is rather small at about 14 cu.ft.  Figure out the volume you need by doing some math and then go to an appliance store and look to see what each size looks like.

When you are ready to buy, consider a used fridge if money is an issue.

Also, remember that refrigerator compressors cycle on and off. This is a source of noise that you might not want in your bedroom when you are trying to sleep. Maybe a porch or garage would be a better location, if possible.

One last thing: refrigerators get dirty, so keep yours clean (with a sponge or rag, no chemicals needed) so your dad doesn't have a reason to object to it.

Look on Craigslist.

Thanks guys. My dad says I can keep stuff in the freezer. So maybe a small one that only fits jars in a fridge compartment will do. I'll check out wal mart, and probably take a mason jar to see if it fits, and how many I can fit.

Craigslist isn't a bad idea. But money isn't an issue, and I prefer getting it new.

One jar? Then get the biggest jar you can find ;D

Keep your mini-fridge as far from your bed as possible to reduce EMF exposure from fridge.
