Title: Fat
Post by: LePatron7 on May 02, 2013, 12:48:22 am
I've noticed raw paleo can be very lean if you don't add fat to everything. Grass fed meats are very lean, and even fatty fish aren't that fatty.
I've been adding 1.5 oz of beef fat to each meal (3 meals a day), eating a lot of eggs through out the day, and a marrow bone daily.
I was just curious, what fats are you guys using?

Many of our paleo ancestors, where able to thrive off of high fat animal biased diets. Throughout the ice ages mega fauna and large game animals where abundant and contained large amounts of fat.
Tribes of herdsmen emerged and lived on diets primarily based on animal foods. The Sheep they domesticated are tasty animals that naturally fatten up on all pasture diets.
I'm eating about 3/4 pounds of raw lamb fat a day.
I found a good source of Icelandic sheep that are raised entirely on pasture, and they have more than enough fat for any high fat diet. I can get close to 10 pounds of fat contained in the belly. Along with the brain, bone marrow, and muscle fat there is more than enough fat in each animal even for the lowest of low carbers.
The belly lining is completely encased with a soft fat that is absolutely wonderful, but most butchers will throw it out.

Currently I am adding 100 grams of fat to each meal, with 300 grams meat & offal, plus an egg and salt x 2 meals a day. The fat is just whatever free trimmings the butcher has available - they say the suet is normally taken out at the meatworks, so this is another fat but it is still soft and crumbly so easy to eat.
My question on fat is that if it is our favorite best source of energy why doesn't fat taste better?
Why is fruit so appealing and fat not so?

I find that the source of fat is very important. I couldn't stand the beef fat I was getting from Miller's. It was chalky, really nasty. Didn't like it at all. But what I'm getting from WOP is very soft, melts in my mouth. And I have no problem eating large amounts of it at a time.
I also like marrow bones, brain, and eggs.
