Title: Naked and Afraid...
Post by: Projectile Vomit on December 18, 2013, 02:23:06 am
Thought some folks might get a kick out of this crazy show: Naked and Afraid (http://dsc.discovery.com/tv-shows/naked-and-afraid). It was produced by the Discovery Channel, and revolves around the idea of dropping two people who don't have any prior experience with each other in a remote location where they have to survive for 21 days. They are dropped off with one personal item, which can't be shoes or clothing. In other words, they have to survive with a complete stranger of the opposite sex while starting completely nude, although they're allowed to make clothing (but apparently not shoes) if they're able.
I'm usually not into survival shows like this, but I did watch Episode 4: Punishment in Panama because the woman who 'starred' in the episode, Laura Zerra, is actually a personal friend. She used to teach at a primitive skills school here in Vermont where I took a few classes.

Kamote tops leaves, first aid.
The weed tawa tawa will cure dengue fever.
Papaya leaves will also work if tawa tawa is not available.

There were several episodes, each featuring a different man/woman pair who were dropped off in a different region. A different woman contracted Dengue Fever. Laura didn't have to deal with anything debilitating like that, thankfully.
