Title: 100 Watt light bulb replacement to dry meat
Post by: Eric25001 on January 27, 2014, 04:23:17 pm
Lex rooker has posted and has information about a cheap home made way to dry meat for Pemmican or just dry meat. WHat can be used now that 100 watt light bulbs are not available? Air dry AND?

The 100-watt bulb supplied a gentle updraft of warmed air, so any other bulb that heats up gently would do. Try some of the newer bulbs to see if you get that gentle updraft of warmed air.
I didn't like the light shining overnight, so I borrowed a terrarium heater, the kind that you would put in a reptile tank. It worked the same as the light bulb. I don't make jerky that way anymore, so I don't have the specs on the heater that I borrowed.

Here's a thread on my Old Shoe beef: http://www.rawpaleodietforum.com/display-your-culinary-creations/old-shoe-(beef)/msg94567/#msg94567 (http://www.rawpaleodietforum.com/display-your-culinary-creations/old-shoe-(beef)/msg94567/#msg94567)
I find that I don't have a quick need for dried beef, which a jerky maker will turn out in a day or three, depending on the humidity. Also, quick drying doesn't develop the aged flavor that I enjoy. Finally, the preparation time for sliced/dryer beef requires a lot of slicing, whereas refrigerator aging requires a quick stab at one end of the beef so you can put a stainless steel hook in securely.
