Surprisingly a lot of people dont know how to eat artichokes. Check out this nifty animated infographic I found on how to eat the leaves and the heart!

I once stayed with a school pal and ate the  whole artichoke since I had never come across such a plant before. He made fun of me after that.

Raw artichokes? Those instructions seem to apply to cooked artichokes only. If they're raw, good luck pulling off the leaves. Can they even be eaten raw?

This lady says she eats artichokes RAW.... delicious.
I read that this improves bile flow and quality.
It's not native in my country but I will look it up in specialty shops.

In Italy it's quite normal to eat raw or boiled vegetables dipped in olive oil - "a pinzimonio". I think I do recall eating a raw artichoke this way. I'll make a trip to the organic shop and try it out.

Update: would believe they sell those 2,40€ each? Guess they're pretty prized.

Anyways, I first attempted to rip and eat each leaf individually, but I found it much more enjoyable to just dip the whole tip of the flower then bite it off.

Outer leaves are very fibrous, so I had to spit them out, whereas the inner ones were so soft I could just swallow them after a few bites.
I ate the head's insides just fine, while the stem was too bitter to eat.

I'd say it was worth the two and a half euros.
