I have always suspected that the dates were wrong for most archaeological calculations and this is just one example of many recent claims that dates for all various Palaeo-era occurrences should be pushed back. I was most impressed with the recent claim that the Neanderthals appeared 300,000 years earlier than thought. I had thought that since homo erectus/homo habilis etc. all had lengthy spans lasting, eg:- c. 0.75 to 1.9 million years as a (sub?) species, it did not make sense that the Neanderthals were just recent entrants.
