I'm clearly from another generation.  I don't even know what any of those things are.  I looked in my lathe, mill, tablesaw, and router manuals and none of those acronyms are listed.  Not in any of my clock repair, engraving, or calligraphy books either.  Your title mentions wanting to "talk" to people.  I have a telephone that I use for that purpose, and often talk to people in person.  Other than that I'm unaware of other communication protocols that allow "talking".

So how do you "talk" using those alphabet soup acronyms you mention?  Just curious,

Lex

Go to the Skype.com page.  Download Skype.  If the other person doesn't have Skype, buy Skype Out credits.  If you want people to call you on the computer buy Skype In credits.  Get a headphone/microphone set.  Same basic thing with some of the other services.

I actually just meant if anyone wants to communicate in real time, not necessarily talk. The software I mentioned (IM = Instant Messaging) is for internet based communication and can be used for both chatting (writing), talking (for free if who you're calling also has the software and microphone/headset).

Instant Messaging just isn't my thing, I'm afraid. I only use the Internet c. once a day, twice at most.

If you talk to someone on their computer without dialing to an outside telephone, Skype is free and unlimited. If your computer has a mic and speakers you don't need the headset. If it has a camera you can show your mug to the others.

There is a lady who has periodic Skype conversations on raw food. Her name is Rose and she can be found somewhere on this site and there is another raw food site that she is on.
