Greetings paleolithic friends,
I've been contemplating the raw meat diet for a few weeks now, ever since reading about Derek Nance. I've been weighing the evidence, learning about "the bear", zero carbers, ketogenic diets, this forum and a youtuber named sv3rige who films his raw meat eating habits.
It's been tough to tell what is true about raw meat since it's commonly understood that it will lead to infection and parasites. However, I've been eating raw eggs for several months and according to popular belief, I should have developed a Salmonella infection and died by now, but have experienced none of that. So I've decided to take the next step and begin eating small amounts of raw meat (a bite a day). All in all, I look forward to learning about the diet from reading the posts in this forum and asking questions.

Welcome to the forum!

The only minor catch re the above is that there is the phenomenon of "detox" wherein people (often, though not always)  experience a few days or weeks of flu-like symptoms etc. as the body starts to get rid of the toxins built up from years of cooked foods. This generally only happens, though, once people switch mostly or wholly to a raw, palaeolithic diet.In my own case, I had green diarrhea for 2-3 days after switching fully. Then I had mild flu-like symptoms(eg:- hot forehead, sleepiness), lasting from 2 to 7 days, which occurred every 2-4 months, and slowly stopped in terms of frequency, duration and severity after 2 years. I still get very mild detox if I stray from the diet, but it's hardly noticeable any more.

The other point I would like to make is that absolutely everybody needs to continually  experiment with their RVAF diets, even long after starting them. Everybody has different allergies or needs or tastes or whatever. Raw milk allergies are very common for example. Some people do fine on raw, zero-carb, others don't in the long run etc.Plus, given the wide variety of  foods available to palaeolithic hunter-gatherers, it's a good idea to try different foods from what modern peoples are used to(eg:- raw organ-meats etc.)

Oh, and thanks for mentioning sv3rige, I'll add his channel to the blogs section. For any dietary group, it's important for people to come up with new blogs, websites , video channels etc. on a regular basis so as to provide multiple sources of info and experience.

Thank you for the welcome and insights. I had a few questions I've been wondering about.
1. Have you any experience with or knowledge about the meats (and frozen fish) from trader joe's?
2. Recently I've been finding myself craving juice. I feel thirsty but reluctant to drink water. Any thoughts on this? It seems to be triggered by some subset of cheese, butter or meat.

No idea re trader joe's,but then I'm not american.

Re juice:-   Well, veggie juice is not generally  recommended in large amounts. Some people have eventually  reported nutritional deficiencies after consuming a glass or more of it regularly. Fruit-juice, however freshly-pressed, isn't really palaeo. One thing  I have found is that even minor processing tricks one's instincts. For example, I will eat much more minced raw meat than standard raw meats. On the other hand, a craving for fruit-juice might simply be the body's need for some carbs. That is, when I tried on 3  different occasions to go raw, zero-carb, I was beset with vast cravings which no amount of raw animal food(or even cooked animal food) was able to sate, all of which stopped when I ate some raw fruits.

Trader Joe's uses a lot of farmed fish and most of it is frozen...Most areas have a fresh fish market, and it would be ideal to order whole wild caught fresh fish from a pristine environment.

I managed to quench my thirst by drinking raw milk. MAN is raw milk delicious. Another update is that despite intending to eat a few raw bites a day, I decided that cooked food feels too heavy on the stomach and decided to just go for it. So I've now been on pure raw animal products for a couple days. Today I ate a massive raw beef liver. It was kind of nasty but palatable. It appears to me that my eyes have a little more "spark" to them and that my seborrheic dermatitis, which I've had now for ~4 months, is winding down. Could be wishful thinking but it seems so. Also I'm glad to say that the raw meat has not caused me any stomach upsets and I'm evidently still alive.

By the way, are there active RPD social groups? Yahoo or fb? I'd be interested in meeting some RPDers in person to exchange recipes and experiences.
