Title: Raw fish liver instead of beef liver?
Post by: norawnofun on January 04, 2018, 06:31:03 am
Hi Guys,

AV and many other raw fooders always praised raw beef liver. However, since im currently abroad I can´t find any organic beef (or similar) liver. The only organic liver that I could get is from wild caught fish. Does anybody have experience in eating raw fish liver? Would the nutrient content be similar? Anything I would need to be aware of?  I don´t wanna miss out on such a nutritional powerhouse  8)

Personally I find it much more pleasant to the palate. It is sweet and has a nice texture. Enjoy.

I don't have a regular schedule. Some weeks I will eat it each day, some weeks I won't eat it. The flavor also really depends on the fish. For instance, I liked bass, trout and pompano liver. It was like a big marshmallow like sweet candy. On the other hand, milkfish was the most bitter thing I have ever tasted. I also threw up later in the night from eating rock cod liver... but I think it's because I mistakenly ate its stomach too (plus contents! yuck!).

I'd just go to the local fish monger, get a whole fish, which is presumably pretty cheap, learn how to gut it, and take a bite from the liver. Just avoid the gallbladder or it'll be disgustingly bitter.

Just as long as it's salt water fish, fresh water fish can be dangerous perhaps!?
