Title: Red Meat Intolerance?
Post by: senses on December 16, 2018, 10:15:40 pm
I've been eating raw meat for months now; a pound a day of either beef liver, heart or steak. This whole time, though, I've been dealing with bloating and diarrhea from the meat, which hasn't subsided at all after months. I figured my stomach would get used to it, but it hasn't at all.

Things I've tried to alleviate issues:
-different kinds of red meat (lamb)
-multiple sources of high quality meat / butchers
-eating nothing but raw meat/eggs for a period of time
-eating the meat alone as a meal
-adding raw fat
-cooked keto combined with raw meat meals
-small amounts of raw meat instead of an entire pound

I finally stopped eating raw meat, and my stomach feels way better, but the benefits of raw meat (added lean muscle, strength, fullness) are lacking. Recently I got diarrhea so bad I had to go on a raw egg fast for a couple days, which cleared it up quickly.

I've heard dogs get diarrhea from raw diets without added calcium. Does this apply to humans? Should I switch to white meats?

I got diarrhea regularly and did not absorb the stuff when I used to, years ago, just eat raw grassfed ox liver every 2nd week. It took time to appear. I took it as a sign to add a lot more variety to my rpd diet. Also, if you are going 100% RZC, I suggest you incorporate some raw plant foods as well into your diet.

a pound of liver might be too much for you, and make sure you have enough fat. Sounds like that may be missing?

I'll give it some time and take it easy, then. Bite-size portions from now on. I doubt fat is the issue, since I consume more than a dozen raw yolks a day.

don't know where you live, but pretty hard to get eggs from chickens eating mostly green food and insects this time of year.   Most chickens eat junk food, soy and corn from monsanto.  Could be your problem right there.  Find some good beef fat that is tasty and drop the eggs.   AV over prescribed the use of eggs, especially for those not able to find quality ORGANIC  green pastured insect fed eggs.  Most would NEVER  think of eating beef If ALL that cow ate was corn and soy.  But that's what most chickens are fed from day on. Amazes me how most never connect the dots.

Fat quantity and quality definitely could be a major issue.

Egg yolks(especially grain fed) can cause issues like the ones mentioned. Histamines and other antigenic substances in foods can act in insidious ways, and being inundated with these substances can make it difficult to pinpoint the exact trigger. It can take a couple of weeks of elimination of possible problem foods such as "eggs", in order to clear the gut to the point where you can begin to rebuild and heal, using a variety of pure quality animal foods.

Raw fats from ruminating pasture raised animals would be much more ideal to try.
Bone Marrow, Suet, Fatty cuts....

for an eye opening mini doc.  Utube  'Why Costco is opening it's own chicken farm"  and remember, most of the chickens shown can be classified as free range because they are not in cages..  And organic would only mean their food is organic, but same diet as shown.

guess I'm cutting out the eggs. I'm from norcal, been mixing costco eggs with more expensive ones to save money, never thought it would be an issue. i hope it's the eggs, it's been frustrating having to cut out raw meat. i've already lost lean muscle and feel weaker in general

Don't ever rely on just 1 source of raw fat or raw food. It's not natural, not palaeo. Raw fats exist in innards like brains, tongue and marrow as well as next to muscle. Raw fats also exist in oily fish, and so on... I don't thrive on high quantities of raw (low quality) eggs or too much raw meat, either.

Very strange that you skipped raw meat and relied on eggs and felt better. Like everyone else I would suspect eggs being the problem with all the crap they feed chickens now a days.

Does sound like an allergic reaction to something.

Also the liver comment someone made was wrong about liver not containing fat. It has lots of it. I eat a lot of raw calves liver. Usually a quarter pound or a half pound a day but I never ate a full pound.

What about gut microbes being shocked? Did you make sudden changes or gradual over a period of time? Maybe you don't have the right microbes to digest raw meat and need to make changes slower to give them a chance to develop the right ones. That's about all I can think of right now.

If you can find a good source for chicken get it, otherwise continue to be in pain.
Or you can try pateing the beef and making it high.
