Title: Big Fat Lies by Gary Taubes (Video)
Post by: Craig on May 05, 2008, 02:51:32 pm
Gary Taubes is not into raw yet but he's not zero-carb either. It's worth watching. He's done five years worth of unbiased research to discover the healthiest diet for humans. What he found went completely against conventional wisdom.

Warning! It's over an hour long.

I really like that guy and that video, he seems nice and like he is interested in the truth. My only question is, if insulin makes you fat and carbs control insulin levels, then why can some people eat carbs and not get fat? I personally can attest to being able to eat lots of carbs and not get fat, and I'm sure we all know someone in our lives that eats pasta and cereals and rice etc. and is skinny.

So there must be more to it, but that is an interesting video. Obviously amount of food does not dictate weight, something we were talking about in another thread. I eat way more than some heavier people I know.

It's all in his book, Good Calories, Bad Calories. Some people's fat cells become insulin resistant before the rest of their cells. These people remain skinny, but can manage to burn the excess carbs.  In others, especially obese people, the fat cells are the last to become insulin resistant. That's why an unnatural amount of carbs or the wrong kind of carbs can make people fat. The latter is what happened to me as I got older.

heres a good video of Taubes on a roundtable Talkshow, with Dean Ornish, Dr. Barbara Howard.
its an hour long but good. i think the host did a good job of letting everyone give their opinion.
its funny to watch the look on Taubes's face when Ornish is miscontruing things and saying things that Taubes knows that is wrong but that theres no reason to argue. although, i do think Ornish does seem to be somewhat openminded, maybe his evidence is just faulty.

I haven't watched all the videos yet but Gary Taubes looks very fit. A few extra kg's but still very healthy looking.

I'm sure that wouldn't be a problem if he were raw.

I also think tans are healthy! Lack of sun exposure and use of sunscreen aren't.

This shows how saturated fats protect against free radicals and cancer while PUFAs cause them.

ha ha yeah he does have a great tan! he with the best tan wins!

I know a lady who never went out in the sun and If she did she was covered head to toe..hat, gloves etc. she got skin cancer and the worst type malignant melanoma.

Here's a recent news story on vitamin 'd' levels, that was shown on our national broadcaster.

http://www.abc.net.au/catalyst/stories/s805444.htm

If sun exposure caused skin cancer, council workers/pro golfers/pro surfers should all be dropping dead from the disease. Not so. The mainstream media is slowly starting to pick up stories about the protective effect of the sun. Maybe in 25years or so will we see a pro sun spin?

also

At the moment I'm really beginning to get big into the idea of once you've been in the sun not to have a shower afterwards. I really think it's healthy for paleo people. I swear I can feel some sort of reaction going on, the 'X' reaction I'm going to call it! Whatever it is  it makes you feel good, your skin glow and your hair soft and shiny.
