Title: Chewing meat. What's your take ?
Post by: chucky on May 11, 2010, 03:42:08 am
Lions swallow big chunks of meat. My dog swallows meat and chews vegetables. Is it human nature to swallow meat and chew vegetables for amylase ?

But here's a bit of research: http://www.ergo-log.com/meatchewing.html

No. Bits of raw meat are swallowed, cooked meat must be chewed.

I love to chew. I chew my ground beef! It makes the food last longer.

Very cool article.

If this is true than why according to the article is there more blood amino acids in people who chew their meat rather than not?

I found this interesting also. There are several factors in this article (like the age, type of meat and probably that it's cooked meat) that should be considered..

But the bottom point is that chewing versus not chewing made difference. Only question is how does it affect the raw meat.. But klowcarb seems to be thriving when chewing it. Klowcarb, did you chew your meat well through from the beginning ?

Klowcarb what do you mean by chewing meat makes it last longer?

Chewed meat feels better for my digestion. Also, I wouldn't want to just swallow some nice and tasty meat. Where is the enjoyment in that?

Also, I wonder if the group with dentures had not only deteriorated teeth, but deteriorated health in other ways.  Don't the two often go hand in hand if your teeth weren't knocked out by a bowling ball or by something else?  Maybe they did not digest their meat as well as the toothed group because their whole bodies were in poor health, inside or out.

Yes, if I eat a raw ribeye, I chew each piece thoroughly. But lasting longer, I mean it makes the meal last longer. I come from the vegetarian world, and I would chew, chew, chew vegetables too. The only meat I swallow is liver (bite size pieces).

I find chewing the food thoroughly to be enjoyable. I chew the bone marrow to a paste, too.

A little bit offtopic but I found this article about the dinosaurs gulping down their food: http://www.physorg.com/news192792793.html

That's a komodo dragon btw, one hell of a predator. Right up there with t-rex and lion as my favorites.

I understand that komodo dragons have a fiercesome toxic bite which has poisonous bacteria in the mouth.

Do most RPDers swallow the tendons and other unchewable parts too?

I'm eating mostly ground beef now, but weirdly, I LOVE gristle. When I eat tough raw chuck steaks, I eat the gristle.

Does it digest well? I usually avoid it and end up discarding large parts of meat.

Yes I do. I cut them into some smaller parts, chew for a second and then swollow them.

I've never had any problem with digestion, even going from vegetarian to ZC. I've always kept myself in good shape, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I didn't come to raw ZC from having problems with digestion, or candida or other issues that made many of us here turn to raw ZC or raw paleo.

They only use that to take down large prey. One sneaky bite and then they follow the prey until it collapses. But what's most fascinating about these creatures is the utter disdain and contempt they have towards their prey. They don't even bother to kill the animal before they start eating it. It's like they derive pleasure from doing it this way. Watch these videos to see them in action doing just this (don't watch if you're raw vegan)

That's just how reptiles are.  Snakes do the same thing. I don't know if it's because they have extremely small/primitive brains, or if even an intelligent reptile would do the same.

Nah, I don't think these creatures swallow things because their are stupid. It's more about digestion and oesophagus. I don't know if komodos have oesophagus but if they do it expands.

I swallow.  I don't like chewing raw tendons.  They make me nauseas, the juices, if I do.  It seems to digest fine for me just swallowed.
