Title: PDAs
Post by: TylerDurden on July 31, 2010, 05:38:05 pm
One thing I really hate above all is PDAs(public displays of affection). I really don't see why it isn't fine to just nod at some stranger when I meet him/her. Despite my British reserve, I suppose I don't mind all that much if I have to shake hands with men, but what really galls me is when greeting female acquaintances and the being kissed on both cheeks business, especially when the latter person is totally insincere(mwah... mwah... uurrgh!). Thank god I don't live in Russia, where, last I checked, it was standard for men to kiss each other when greeting.

I went to a annual general meeting for the apartments where I live and there was a couple the who were about 40ish and the were PDAing for the whole meeting. It was sad.  They sat really close to each other and had there arms linked. The guy was the worst. It was irritating. He was holding on for dear life. I felt like saying to the guy 'be a man!'. No man should ever PDA his girl...not cool.

I like it when women don't do the kiss thing and just stand there and just say 'Hey' I think the kiss on the cheek is going out of fashion but if I ever handshake a girl I always go for a firm shake every time.

PDA to me is kissing, making out, "get a room" kind of affection in public. The PDA you describe here, I consider a European greeting. When I spent a month in Hungary, I actually liked the kissing-both-cheeks (but often, it's really cheeks touching, with the mwah - no actual direct planting of lips on the other's cheek). But when I do it, it's sincere. But if you don't like it, I don't think female acquaintances should do it to you. Kissing one cheek is also just part of my cultural background, so I'm used to it. But I'm sensitive to other people's feelings, I reciprocate affection when it's wanted (i.e., hugs) and also back off and give people space when they're more reserved... (or I hug them anyway because they need it! Haha! >D )

Yes - if I'm going to shake hands, I give firm handshakes and I greatly appreciate firm handshakes from both men and women.

I'm going to give you a huge hug TD and kiss both your cheeks sincerely whenever we meet.
