Title: Nut Butter
Post by: LightzNY on September 04, 2010, 12:22:33 pm
I need to cut out nut butter. I feel like I'm becoming addicted to it fast. I would eat a whole jar of almond butter a day...I did this twice already.
Any bad experiences with nut butters?

this has happened to me before...  I switched to an occasional handful of nuts.

do you eat it alone?  is that even possible?  I would overdo it if I mixed it with kefir or yogurt, 1 cup was never enough!  no serious short-term side effects, except for sensing a depression underneath my eyes afterwards and feeling heavy.  not sure about long term.

Yes I would eat it alone straight our the jar with a spoon.

doesn't that get stuck in your throat?!  unless your brand is super smooth and oily I'd say just buy almonds.

Almonds are pasteurized in the US.

I also find them very addictive. They tend to make my teeth hurt and lower the quality of my overall digestion.

One of my favourite things in the world is almond butter spread over a banana... but I have to rather leave that as a very occasional treat :)

Nut butter is definitely not rawpalaeo, as it's processed to some extent . To be avoided. Besides, nuts contain antinutrients even after soaking them for 24 hours before consumption.

Man.... I love nuts sooooooooooo much :D

But I avoid them because of their high omega6 to 3 ratio :/

the funny thing about nuts is they are only addictive if you buy them shelled

if you buy unshelled nuts the amount of food you get isn't really worth the hassle so it turns into a once in awhile thing

The best nut is macadamia, for its low antinutrient levels and good omega ratio, which are from Australia and were eaten by the aborigines.  Shelled macadamias are guranteed oxidized.

I love macadamias and pine nuts...somehow they are just more "juicy" then the other nuts...
I mainly eat these nuts if I want a dessert thing...
I make raw truffles using the macadamia and pine nuts.

I made these yesterday and they were awesome:
- macadamias and pine nuts ground in a coffee grinder till buttery but still a little crunchy.
- dried Goji berries ground in coffee grinder
- lots of raw cacao powder
- some raw honey
Mix & mold above ingredients into a "dough" using hands
Roll it into balls
Roll the balls into cinnamon to coat them
Freeze for half an hour or so to harden them and mold flavors

And that's my fave raw desert, and the only one I eat besides fruit...it really satisfies any chocolate/sweet cravings for chocoholics :P And they make me really full so I eat this dessert as a separate meal actually (yes its kinda high sugar due to the honey but the nut fats seem to balance it out for me)...

Sounds delicious, but that combo abombo would make me feel horrible!

It is too delicious, that's too bad it would make you feel horrible, cause of all the sugar and nut oils you mean?
I don't have them often once or twice a week but when I want that chocolate high its the thing! Heh, when family see me making them they start stalking and prowling around the kitchen, and then I have to make them stop trying to thief them before they're frozen...

I find cacao too stimulating ... it makes me feel quite wired and yucky. Combining nuts and any sugar, be it fruit or honey or whatever nearly always gives me flatulence, hahaha. I really like it though, so gotta make the occasional exception eh :P

If you want to eat almond butter but truely raw almonds form a place like this http://www.bluemountainorganics.com/_product_85718/Almonds,_raw_-_LRF_(8_oz) sprout them in clean water, germinate them, then grind in food processor, after they are ground mix a fermented liquid like truly raw coconut vinager/apple or raw whey to ferment the mixture ferment as long as you like longer is better ,if you do it slowly all the anti-nutrients will be released (how long they should be fermented is done on a case by case basis . You see may diffrent tribes that consumed nuts like the aborigines would bury things like bunya and macadamia nuts in mud to ferment and eat them raw, also withj the ojibway indians would put wild rice in pots and submerge in water and eat it rotten in the spring. Anyways after you think it is ready mix 4-5 tablespoons of a high quality raw(unfrozen) such as butter,cream,beef/lamb/goat/deer/bison/pork/duck fat etc or coconut cream,3-4 raw unrefrigerated eggs. After it is mixed eat however you wanr preferabbly with fresh raw or soured milk, raw cheese and really raw honey and there you have it they are ready to eat .
